Leaving the cave, going into the unknown

Chapter 58

After we baby proofed the bus we were half way to Las Vegas, which was our first stop of the tour. Melody was fitting in quite nicely with bus life, even though we had been on for a couple of hours I knew that if she didn’t like something right away you would know. She would usually start crying and pouting until you took her somewhere else but if she liked a place she didn’t’ change her mind, she was stubborn just like her father. I tried to get her to go back to sleep but she just wasn’t having it, too excited to look around and play with everyone. We were now cuddled in the back watching Toy Story for the hundredth time in her short life, by now you could tell her favorite parts because she’d gurgle and flap her arms. It was just her and I back here as the guys were all up front having a band meeting about off days and such. Which would have been fine but I was nodding off and someone needed to watch Dee. I made it until half way through the movie before falling asleep, when I woke up the TV was off and there was no baby in my arms, I immediately went into panic mode. I raced up to the front to see no one; I raced to put on my shoes and run outside into the strange venue. I looked everywhere and eventually ended up onstage frantic, a stagehand must have seen the look on my face and came over to see me.

“Miss are you okay?” He asked

“I can’t find my baby she was in the bus but I fell asleep now my boyfriend and his band aren’t there, have you seen them?” I rushed out.

“Are you with Of Mice & Men? I saw them go back into their dressing room, down the hall third door on the left.” I raced out a quick thank you and ran down the hall, I could hear the giggles from here and it put my mind at ease.

There sitting on the couch was my baby with her dad, he had her on his lap with a guitar in his hands. She was trying her best to strum while he made the chord shapes, I felt all the worry fall out of me and I wanted to go right back to sleep.

“Oh hey Alex, nice to see you’ve woken up from your nap.” Aaron said from another part of the room.

“Next time you guys leave the bus could you wake me up and let me know. I was running around the venue franticly looking for her.” I sat next to Alan as they continued to ‘play’.

“When you fell asleep she crawled to the front, I went to the back and you were passed out. We had sound check and I wanted you to sleep so the guitar tech looked after her.” Alan explained.

“Well if I die of a heart attack on this tour we’ll know why.” I sighed and relaxed in the couch until I felt tiny hits on my legs. I looked over to see Dee was trying to climb onto my lap so I took her from Alan.

“Are you excited to see Daddy play tonight?” Alan said in a baby voice. She looked at me then him and started to cry.

“I’m going to take that as a no, she’s probably just hungry I’ll go feed her.” I said while I left with a very upset little girl. As I left the room I heard laughter from the guys, I had to admit if my daughter had anything it was good comedic timing.

After feeding her and changing her into the Of Mice and Men leggings and sweatshirt we went back into the venue. One of the tech’s came rushing up to me and handed me baby proof headphones for her. They were almost the same size as her head but they were pretty cute. By the time we got back the guys were getting ready to go onstage. Alan saw us and came running over grabbing her from my arms and spinning her around.

“Uh I can’t believe you guys are here right now, I hope she likes it.” He said. You could tell he was nervous but not for the show.

“Alan she’s only 7 months old and you guys play some pretty heavy music, if she doesn’t like it now she will eventually. Now give me baby and go play.” I took her and gave him a kiss.

The intro music started up and the guys ran on to the stage, their set started and it was like they had no time off at all. Melody was doing surprisingly well and was flapping her hands along with the music. I for sure thought that by now she would be crying or fussy but she seemed to be enjoying herself. It was half way through the set when Alan started to talk into the microphone.

“Hey everyone. I hope you’re all enjoying yourselves and we want to thank you for being patient with us while we took this time off. We’re pleased to announce that we have a new album coming out soon but as some of you know that’s not the only reason we took time off. My beautiful fiancé and I had a baby and she’s here tonight if you’d like to meet her.” Everyone started to cheer as Alan gestured to me. I started to walk out on stage baby in hand and everyone cheered even louder. Alan took her from me and pulled a baby Simba move by holding her up in the air. She had the most confused look on her face but it eventually turned into a smile. I took her back so they could finish the show but I knew that moment had made Alan’s night.

When they got off stage they went straight into the shower so I took her back to the bus to get ready for bed. I left my phone there because if there was a real emergency someone would call the band manager. I wanted to check my instagram for any photos of Dee on stage when I saw I received a text message.
