Leaving the cave, going into the unknown

Chapter 4

I was dragged through doorway after doorway walking by countless people until we had reached a door with a piece of paper stuck to it that said Of Mice & Men. I had no clue how Alan had remembered how to get here from the bus, I just held on for dear life and hoped to not get left behind again. When he opened the door and lead me in I was taken back by the space. It wasn’t too large but it had 2 black couches, a table, some chairs and a whole lot of alcohol. Jack, Jager, all kinds of vodka and coke.

“Do you want anything to drink? We usually drink before the show so our rider is usually made up of shit like this.” He said pointing to the various types of alcohol.

I contemplated his offer for a while, I wanted to be sharp for the show, but I knew with what had already happened that night and being in a room alone with Alan I was going to need some serious liquid courage.

“Ya sure. Could I have a Jack and Coke?”

“Jack huh? A woman after my own heart.” He said with a little smirk on his face.

He poured my drink along with one for himself and invited me to sit down on the sofa next to him. I followed his lead and made myself comfortable now that I was in shorts, I sat cross-legged across from him. I took a big swig of my drink hoping to be intoxicated as soon as possible, I was really feeling soar from my little tumble earlier and was hoping that I could use the alcohol as a pain reliever.

“So Alex, tell me a little bit more about yourself.”

“I don’t really know what to tell you. I’ve lived in LA my whole life, finished high school with descent grades, started making jewelry out of my bedroom in sophomore year so I got a job at a local shot after graduation and I’ve been working there since. My mom and dad got divorced when I was younger but either than that I had a great childhood. I’m pretty boarding to be honest.”

“I think you’re interesting.” I was extremely taken back by this. I was many things sure but interesting was defiantly not one of them.

“Well I think you’re mistaken, the most interesting thing about me is how much interest I use a month, it’s way to much by the way.” Bad joke Alex bad joke….

“What ever you say dear Alex but I think that there is a whole side to you that you don’t even know about yet. I’ll get it out of you don’t worry.” It was in that moment that it really hit me, knowing him was going to change my life whether I wanted it changed or not. He was the kind of person that made you better, but in my past experiences those people can also make your life drastically worse at any moment.

We started talking and didn’t stop until we realized that an hour had past and Alan had to go on stage and warm up with the band. I followed him to the stage area and was met by a white noise of screams, I put my hands to my ears to try and find some relief. Alan saw things and franticly went through a large bin on the side, later returning with some construction work headphones.

“We usually give these to little kids if they come and see us but you can use them tonight.” He screamed over the noise. I didn’t care who usually used them, after spending so much time in the safety of my own room I wasn’t used to load noises such as this. I put the headphones on and felt instant relief. I already looked ridiculous so why not add to the ensemble.

Suddenly the lights dimed and the crowd got even louder than before as the drummer took to the stage followed by Alan, the other guitarist and the bassist (I really need to meet the rest of the band after the show). Finally after starting the song Austin took the stage and I have never seen a man so angry and energized in my life. The song continued and I was blown away by the energy they were all giving. Alan was jumping around and singing back to fans, I had to admit he looked really hot playing the guitar. He was doing crazy tricks and I kept thinking he would break the guitar but he never did. More than anything I was amazed by the crowd, they were so energetic despite being cramped together. I recognized some of the girls from the very front of the line up against the barricade with tears in their eyes as Austin sang to them. I couldn’t even imagine the feeling that must being going through that girl.

Before I even knew what was happening some guy had come up behind me and was talking to me. As great as these headphones were I really couldn’t hear him so I kept pointing to the stage and my ears as to signal I couldn’t hear him, apparently he took this as a different meaning. He grabbed me princess style and walked out onto the stage while I was thrashing about and threw me into the crowd. I thought I would drop to the ground and I screamed and the feeling of me being in the air seemed to last forever but soon I felt a group of hands catch me. I was crowd surfing, against my will, but I was still doing it. I felt people move me back and forth and I looked up and saw Alan give me a huge look of relief as he saw I was having fun. Eventually I made my way back to the front where a security guard helped me back on the ground. As much as I loved that I was happy to finally be back on solid ground. I ran back stage feeling like a whole new person, the adrenaline was running though my veins. So this is what it’s like to go out and do things and be in crowds, I sure wasn’t ready for the pit but I was getting close. By the time I made it back to side stage the concert was over and I saw Alan looking for me. Feeling full of energy and confidence I snuck up behind him and jumped on his back surprising him.

“Holy Shit Alex are you ok I saw that guy through you into the crowd I’m so sorry man this is not your night.”

“No really it was fun! Sure I didn’t want to get thrown in but it was really fun and now I feel on to of the world!!” I screamed out.

“Well that’s probably because you’re on my shoulders and I’m pretty tall.”

“I guess I’ll just have to stay up here a little longer than.” I whispered into his ear trying to sound as sexy as possible but I’m sure it didn’t come out that way. I’m not very sexy, not even a little bit.

“I guess you will.” He said as he squeezed my legs that were currently wrapped around his waste. I guess he got the sexy message. Just like a switch I went from being energized to extremely tired. All this socializing has really exhausted me, I wasn’t used to being out this late and I sure wasn’t used to being around all these people. I rested my head in the crook of his neck as he started to walk us somewhere. I felt him nuzzle my head back and it was then that I could feel myself start to fall for Alan Ashby, all it took was a few hours for him to steal my heat and attention. I never really believed in love at first sight but I guess, things change.
