For What It's Worth..

-As you slip into Oblivion, use it like a weapon.-

Someone was muttering. No, it was two people muttering. I wish they would shut up and let me sleep. The pillows were so soft and the blanket that was covering me was heavenly. I groaned loudly, annoyed that whoever was here wasn't going to stop talking. I opened my eyes part way, sleep was apparent on my eyelids, as they felt heavy and gross.

I moved my arm and tried to rub the sleep out of my eye, wincing when I pushed too hard on the bruise that was on the outside of my eye. “Oww.” I whined. I heard footsteps coming towards me “You alright love?” I heard Chris ask. “Mmmmm.” shaking my head slightly. I blinked open my eyes, turning to the right, seeing Ricky sitting out on the balcony, having a smoke. He was talking to a figure beside him. I heard Josh's voice. I slowly got up, but my muscles protested vehemently against that option. I bit my lip, trying to hold back the yell that was at the back of my throat. I fell back against the bed.

Having been beat up, and then soaked in hot water. My muscles were finally starting to ache painfully. I forgot I shouldn't have relaxed my muscles in hot water then go to sleep shortly after. Because when I woke up, I would feel everything that happened previous to the relaxing bath.

Although, I definitely didn't regret the love making session afterwards. I tried to re-relax my muscles so they didn't tense up so much. Easier said then done.

“Jen, jesus are you okay?” Chris was sitting beside me now. I breathed out a slow breath. “I’ll be fine.” I said in a strained voice. “Just need to take it slow. Really fucking slow.” I strained. “I should have just taken a shower yesterday.” I muttered to myself. I ran a hand through my hair, it was greasy and oily. I gave a resigned sigh. “I need a shower.” I looked over at Chris. His caramel brown eyes gazed at me with worry.

I heard Balz walk in. “Is Jen up yet?” He asked. My eyes widened and I pulled the blanket over me more so he couldn't see. “Jeez, ever heard of knocking.” I glared at him. His eyes widened when he saw me pulling the blanket around my nude form, he grinned evilly. “What where two planning on doing?” He asked slyly, he wiggled his eyebrows in a suggestive manner.

I grabbed a pillow from behind me and chucked it at his face. “Nothing that has anything to do with you!” I chided angrily. He stumbled back. His expression was one of wonder and disbelief as the pillow fell to the ground.

“What is it with you two and pillows, and my face?” He asked in feign exasperation. I looked at Chris curiously, and he had a huge grin on his face, obviously remembering something funny. “I don’t think I want too know.” I said slowly. “Anyways Balz, get back outside and close the curtain. I got to get a shower.” When he didn't comply right away, Chris tossed another pillow at him, and he ran outside back too Ricky. Shutting the curtain behind him.

Chris turned to me and grinned. “Well now that we’re alone.” He spoke loudly enough that I knew they could probably hear him. “What should we do now?” He asked curiously, but his eyes spoke a different story.

I decided to play along. “I could think of a few things.” I raised myself to him slowly. “And about nine out of ten of them require no clothes.” I saw him smirk evilly. “Well then, I guess I should take off my clothes then, hm?” I reach out to him and pulled him towards me, and he closed the gap by giving me a surprise kiss, crawling on top of me. Careful not to put any pressure on me, I let out a light shriek as he pulled the covers down, gently nipping at my neck.

“Oh come on guys! I thought we had places to be today!” I heard Balz shout. I giggled as I pulled Chris’ face to mine, kissing him again. I felt my heart flutter at the excitement he gave me. We pulled away from each other breathless. He chuckled. “We probably should get ready.” I smirked.

“Besides.” He said while getting off of me. “I’d rather have you making those wonderful noises too me, than have anyone else listening in.” I could feel a blush running along my cheeks. Well, when you say it like that.

__________

I had finished showering and had put on my clothes for today. A thin black long sleeved shirt that seemed too hug every curve comfortably, and some dark green camo pants that had more pockets than I knew what to do with. I fluffed out my hair, glad that I had the chance to blow dry it, thanks too the hotel. I slipped on my wool black beanie with a beak attached to it over my head. I pulled the excess part of the hat too fall comfortable along the back of my head. I looked at myself, trying to approve my look.

I kept looking at the blue and purple bruise at the corner of my eye, and then too the now turning an ugly yellowish red color of the mark on my jaw. I pinched the bridge piercing on my nose, nearly regretting even thinking of what I was going to ask Chris. I opened the door. “Chris could you come here for a second, and bring your makeup to please?” I put the toilet cover down and sat on it. “Whats up?” I looked up at Chris who had the most confused look on his face. In his hand was his makeup he wore almost daily. I sighed, and then looked away, embarrassed.

“Do you think you could try and cover up my eye and jaw, please? I would, but makeup is a pretty foreign concept to me.” I looked at him blushing like crazy. He gave me an understanding smile. He put his makeup on the counter, and I did recognize some of the items there. Eyeliner, mascara, eyeshadow, foundation, etc.

He quickly went to work on the bruise around my eye. I felt something cool and thick being rubbed on the outside of my eye socket. But I didn't really notice what was going on, I was too busy watching Chris work. His eyes were narrowed in concentration, I saw that he was biting his labret piercing slightly. He looked so focused. I couldn't help but grin, ignoring the throb my jaw gave me. His light brown eyes found mine staring at him, and he bust out in a trademark Chris Cerulli grin. “What’re you staring at?” he droned playfully.

I shrugged, puckering my lips in a funny way. “Nothing, nothing at all good sir.” I flashed him an innocent smile. “Mhmm.” He murmured, still smiling. “I hate to ask, since it feels like you’re almost done, but do you think you could do that too my whole face?” I asked him.

“It feels weird too just have it two different spots.” I continued as I raised my eyebrow at him, questioningly. “I was waiting for you too say that.” he replied and continued his task too the rest of my face. Suddenly I heard the TV turn on and I heard the dreaded words being sung over the speakers. “Baby! Baby! Baby Oooh!”

“Turn that shit off before my ears start bleeding!” I yelled out. I heard conjoined screaming from Balz and Ricky as they realized what was playing. “Guys, hurry! Before we all die!” Chris screamed, he looked towards where the scary music was coming from, holding the sponge thing just above my face. I heard Ricky start yelling at Balz. Then I heard a loud thud as one of them fell on the floor.

Then the music changed and started blaring Avenged Sevenfold. Chris and I breathed out a sigh of relief. “Whew!” I heard Balz exhale in obvious relief.

Chris soon finished up putting on..foundation, I think it was, and then he put some eyeliner on me as well. When he was finished, I was blinking rapidly, trying to stop the water build up that was threatening to spill over my eyes after he applied the eyeliner. It didn't hurt, it was just uncomfortable. “Now, I remember why I hate that stuff.” I groaned. Chris laughed. “Your eyes aren't used too it. Thats all.” I stuck my tongue out at him. He picked up his stuff and walked back out of the bathroom. I got up slowly because I was a little numb from sitting on the uncomfortable toilet seat cover. I turned to look at myself in the mirror. No bruises or marks, or any of my tiny scars from growing up, getting hurt all the time. Just my normal pale complexion all over. I also noticed that my green eyes were popping out more with the eyeliner. I gave myself a satisfied smirk. Good enough for today. I definitely wasn't going to go through that again tomorrow though. It felt extremely odd on my face.

I scrunched up my nose and walked out of the bathroom, walking past the guys out too the balcony, which wasn't really a balcony because we were on the first floor, but I guess it was for privacy’s sake.

I breathed in the fresh clean air of the oncoming winter. The sun was high in the sky, telling me it was probably around twelve in the afternoon or so. I looked around, and was disappointed to see that it hadn't snowed yet. I leaned on the railing that was in front of me, trying to ignore the nagging pain my stomach was giving me.

Ricky came out and leaned against the railing beside me, taking out one of his cigarettes, lighting it up and inhaled it. I never minded smokers, especially if they were my friend. But it didn't get rid of a pain that you get when you lose your friends and family. I had lost people that I cared about too different types of cancer that where the cause of those evil things.

I guess it scared me more with Ricky, because he was still here, alive and well. I turned to him as he blew out a puff of smoke, sadness overcoming my features. He looked over and I turned my head forward again, trying to avoid a possible angry Rick. “What's wrong?” He asked. “Nothing.” I tried to smile, but it wasn't one that would reach my eyes. I saw him in the corner of my eye, and he had a concerned look on his face. “Is your stomach bothering you?” He asked. I shook my head, and gave a light chuckle. “I’m fine, Rick. Really I am.”

“Your face says different.” He laughed a little while he flicked the ashes off his cigarette to the ground.

“Eh.” I shrugged. “I just don’t want to sound rude.” He gave me an odd look. “Is the smoke bothering you?” He asked.

“No, its just that-” I paused trying to find the right words. “I guess that I wished you didn't smoke. And please try not to get offended, because I know what you’re probably going to say in your defense.” He turned towards me, curiosity written all over his face.

“I don’t mind the smoke, I don’t care that you do smoke, that's your choice. But I guess that I’m scared of losing another friend.” He widened his eyes. “What do you mean?” He asked.

I clicked my tongue, pondering for a second if I should tell him. “I lost a really close friend of mine too cancer. Lung cancer, caused by that.” I nodded too his cancer stick in between his fingers. “Thing right there. And right now, there is someone who I care for. She’s like a mother figure to me. She is fighting off throat cancer as we speak, because she was too stubborn to stop smoking over three packs a day.” I grimaced as I remembered that I had to go visit Marie soon, too see how she was holding up.

My heart tugged in response to the last time I seen her. She was hooked up too hospital machinery, and she was grumbling how that it was a waste of time.

“I’m sorry.” Ricky sounded genuine with his unnecessary apology.

“Its okay.”I said quietly. I looked at him, with a stern gaze. “Just don’t go dying on me any time soon.” I tried to make it sound light. But he just smiled. “I won’t. I promise.”

“I’ll hold you too that.” Making a fist holding it out to him. He smirked, curling his fingers into a fist as well; bumping it against mine.

We soon found ourselves standing outside of the hotel, under shelter of part of the roof that hung over the entrance for people to pull up with their cars. Only because shortly after talking to Ricky outside, it had started to downpour.

Welcome to Nova Scotia, where our weather is as mixed up as a chameleon in a rainbow ball pit.

We were currently waiting for a cab I had called fifteen minutes ago. They said they would be awhile since it was busy today. “Jen, are you sure they’re coming?” Balz asked for the fourth time.
I sighed. “Yes, Josh, they are. Calm your tits.” I heard him grumble something about ‘why don’t you calm your tits’.

“Shit, I gotta go pay for another night.” I suddenly remembered. I was about to turn around, but Chris stopped me, pulling me close to him. “I already took care of it, don’t worry about it.” I looked up at him. He was smiling softly. “Did I ever tell you that you’re amazing?” I asked him, smiling back. He leaned down and kissed me.

“No, but I’m glad you think so.” He chuckled, kissing me again. I grinned into the kiss. I was glad he was here. He seemed too keep me in good spirits after what happened yesterday. As we pulled away from each other I saw the Metro taxi pull up. I saw a familiar dark skinned face and was immediately waving towards them. He pulled up and we all clamored in the bulky Ford. I sat up in the front seat, while the guys sat in the back.

The driver took one look at me, and started laughing. “Virginia Jay! Is that you?”

I grinned over at my old friend. “Hey Bobby, how are you doin?” I high fived him, while he chuckled. “Man, its been ages since I seen you, girl. Where have you been?”

I shrugged my shoulders. “Been travelling the States, then I decided to come home for awhile and see how Anna was doing.”

Bobby turned and looked at the three men in the back seat. “And who are these gentlemen?” He asked. I turned and introduced them in turn. “The one sitting behind me is Ricky, and the tall one beside him is Chris.” I grinned at Bobby. “Who is also my boyfriend, I might add. And the one with short hair is Josh.”

“Hey”

“Hello.”

“Sup?”

The guys smiled. “Guys, this is my grandfather's best friend. Robert Wallace Senior. Or Bobby.” I laughed.

“Does your grandfather know you have a new boyfriend?” Bobby asked me. I shook my head. “I didn't get a chance to tell him yet.” He shook his head, and turned around. “Where to, missy?”

“We’re going to Lawtons.”

“Alrighty.” he pulled away from the hotel, and onto the busy road. We chatted about old times, catching up on missed gossip, Bobby was awesome that way. He even got Ricky, Chris and Balz into the conversation. Although I think it was more because they were all males, and they have this thing that makes it seem like they know each other even if they never met before. I soon drifted out of the conversation when they started talking sports.

I stared out of the window, watching the scenery pass us by. The rain pattered on the windows, in some kind of soothing rhythm. I watched as it raced across the window in random patterns. I started tapping my legs along with the beat of the music on the stereo. I could barely hear it, but the bass was loud enough so the drums and guitar where more evident that something was playing.

It was a good song, so I kept at my leg drumming, listening too the lyrics I couldn't hear. The song made itself more known as I kept up the beat. It was a nice distraction from the very unpleasant thoughts that were trying to take over my thought process. It kept me focused. I started nodding my head too the beat, thinking it wouldn't hurt to get a little carried away.

As the beat continued, I slowly started to recognize it. Love Bites by Halestorm. I saw Bobby look over at me and smiled, he turned up the music. “Ha, I knew it.” I mumbled happily, as the words became clearer.

But by the time the song was half way through, we had arrived at our destination. I pulled out my wallet, intending to pay for the ride. I pulled out a ten and held it out too Bobby. He put his hand up. “Oh, no you don’t.” I glared at him.

“Oh yes I do, missy.” He chuckled. I turned too the guys, “Can you guys excuse us, please? I’ll be right in.” They all gave me weird stares, but complied and got out of the car. I turned back to Bobby. “I’m leaving this here.” I said as I opened the door, one foot stepping out of the car. He sighed. “Really Jay?” I felt my teeth showing as I smiled at him. I got out and quickly left the ten on the seat where I was sitting. He pushed the window button down on my side and leaned over. “I’ll tell your grandfather about your new boyfriend.” He threatened, even though I knew he was joking.

“And I’ll tell him you wouldn't let me pay my cab fare.” I shot back, laughing slightly. He roared. “Alright alright. I’ll talk to you later, Jay. Take care of yourself.”

“Bye, Bobby, you to.” I waved to him as he pulled the cab away. I saw the guys waiting at the front door too the Lawtons drugstore.

“So, did you want to talk about that fight with your mom?” Chris asked. We were walking around the drugstore, waiting for my prescription to get filled out. He was holding my hand, as we wandered aimlessly up and down the isles. “Which part?” I sighed somewhat angrily. I looked up at Chris, who frowned. “Sorry, it’s just that. Part of it made me more mad than the other parts.”

“Which part was that?”

“The part about you.” He looked at me strangely. “I haven’t even met her yet and she has something against me.” he mused.

“Yeah, that's my mom. She apparently, did some, uh, research on you and she knows everything about you. If its on the internet it must be true, huh.” I looked at him, waiting for a response. He just stared ahead, as if what I said was sinking in. I stopped walking, letting him walk until he realized I stopped. He turned around, confusion on his face. “Why’d you stop?” I gave a small smile. “Are you okay?” I asked instead of answering him.

His face became pained. And I felt that there was so much more bothering him than I thought at first. I didn't pry.

“I think I’m okay. I’m glad that I was here last night, but it scared the hell out of me, seeing you like that.” He replied, quietly. I pulled him towards me, he stood a good few inches above me, my forehead reached his chin. I snuck my arms around him, squeezing him. “I’m glad you were here to.” Looking up into his hazel eyes. There still was that same need to know what he knows, and what he feels that surged through my heart.

I suddenly remembered a couple of weeks ago, when Chris woke up from that nightmare he had. I remember asking him about it, and he said that it was about me. That I had died. I remember hugging him for long time after that, because he honestly looked more scared than I thought he should be. Maybe something happened to him before I met him.

“I’m sorry.” I murmured quietly, looking down at his chest. “Don’t you dare say that.” He growled. He grabbed my chin, and made me look him in the eyes again. “This is not your fault. It was his.” He was referring too Dylan. “And if I ever see him, he’s going to get his ass handed to him for hurting you and scaring your niece.”

I felt my lip quiver in an attempt not too beam at his words, and start crying. He gave me a startling make-you-weak-in-the-knees kiss. I sighed happily, stumbling a bit. “Your kisses will be the end of me.” I muttered jokingly. He just smirked, grabbing my hand and we continued walking around aimlessly, waiting, and enjoying each others company.

“Hey JJ!” I turned around in surprise, when I heard someone call me by my old nickname. I saw Kyle walking up to us, with Nova in tow. “Hey Kyle, what are you doing here?” I raised my eyebrow at him. He chuckled. “Your sister wanted some colorful hair dye, apparently her and Nova are going to dye their hair some bright and crazy color.”

I laughed, and walked over to him and gave a quick hug. I pulled away and turned towards Chris, who was staring at us. I waved him over. Turning back around, I chided too Kyle. “What have I told you about that nickname?”

He grinned. “It was the only thing you actually answered too. You guys where in your own little world.” Chris was beside me again. I turned to him. “Chris, this is Kyle my sisters soon to be husband.” Turning too Kyle. “Kyle, this is my boyfriend Chris Cerulli.” They shook hands, grinning. I turned too Nova. “Hey Nova. How are you today?” I asked the little blonde girl.

She started pouting her lips, as if she was going to cry. I quickly picked her up in one swoop, holding her close too me. She let out little sobs, as I swayed slightly, trying to calm her down. Kyle looked at me sympathetically. “She’s been worried about you since you left last night. It was Anna's idea to dye their hair, too distract her in other words.”

It hurt too hear the little girl cry quietly. “It’s okay, Vee. It’s okay.” I cooed. I rubbed her back, and she wrapped her arms around my neck in a vice like grip. She hiccuped and stopping crying, just continued hugging me, I kept swaying slowly. I looked over at Chris, and he gave me smile. I grinned slightly.

“Hey Vee, guess who I ran into last night?” I asked the little girl. She pulled away from my shoulder and looked me in the eyes. “Who?” She wiped her eyes, trying to get rid of the tears. “You remember Chris, right?” She nodded excitedly. I nodded in his direction, and she looked over at him, surprise written all over her face.

“Whats he doing here, Auntie?”

“He came to see me. And so did two of his friends.” My grin growing bigger.

“Hi, Nova, its nice to finally meet you.” He beamed. I could feel Nova shift in my arms too look at him straight on. I see she was a little timid too actually meet him in person, than on a computer screen. “Hi.” she mumbled, waving slightly.

She perked up suddenly. “Will you help me find some blue hair dye?” She asked Chris. He looked at me, then at Nova. “Sure I don’t see why not.” I put her down, and Nova grabbed his hand dragged him down the aisle in search of blue hair dye. I laughed at the sight, he was bent over ever so slightly, just so she could keep a hold of the tall mans hand. I turned to Kyle, who was chuckling lightly at the sight as well. We started walking after them, until I heard my name being called from the back of the store. “I’ll be right back, I just got too get my prescription.” He nodded and followed Chris and Nova.

I quickly walked down to the long desk, where a woman dressed in a white lab coat was waiting, holding my pills. Balz was there, standing too the side waiting for me, I guessed. When I got there, the woman went over how many pills I should take a day, and possible side effects. I noticed she was eyeing up Balz, looking suspicious. That better not be the look I think it is. I quickly thanked her and turned towards Josh. “Ready to find the others?” I asked. He nodded. “Sure.”

I don’t quite know how it happened, but we were all squished together in the back of Kyles Toyota truck. Nova was sitting up front with her stepfather while the four of us were squashed in the back, and since Ricky was the shortest and smallest of us, he was sitting across our laps. I was sitting at the window seat on Kyles side, Chris was beside me and Josh beside him. Nova kept turning around and laughed at us, and kept asking and making sure Chris would help her with her hair. I smiled as she asked him the fifth time, and he had said yes again for the fifth time as well. He was beaming at the little girl, and it made me happy that they got along.

Ricky was sitting on my lap, his legs just reaching over to Joshs leg. Apparently, they didn't want ‘Sir Bony Butt’ too sit on their laps, so I agreed to have him sit on mine. Wouldn't be the first time I had one of my friends sit on me, when there was no room left to sit and it definitely wouldn't be the last. And if I was honest, it was pretty hilarious. Although what was bugging me was that he was popping some bubblegum that he had bought at the store. At first, I thought, what the hell, he’ll stop soon. But he soon figured out it was getting on my nerves, so he kept doing it right near my face.

I guess it didn't help that I was edging him on either. Everytime he popped a bubble, I would flick his leg. Pop. Flick. Pop. Flick. Pop. Flick.

I glared at him, as I saw him blowing up another bubble, but this time was going to be different. As soon as the bubble was big enough, I flicked it causing it to explode all over his face. I snickered, and leaned my head against the window trying to contain myself. “Jerk.” He mumbled with a facefull of bubblegum. “Bitch.” I managed out between snickers. Suddenly we hit a bump, and Ricky was tossed in the air for a few short seconds and landing hard on my legs. “Ouch, you really are Sir Bony Butt.” Chris snorted. “Told you.” He let out a short bark of laughter. I stuck my tongue out at him, which he cheekily returned the gesture by sticking his own tongue out.

“We’re here.” Kyle announced, and I saw the guys look out the house in wonder. I’d be the first to admit it was a rather large house, and the circular driveway didn’t help its magnificence. But it was definitely not a mansion, more of an oversized house. That and apparently it was haunted, and my sister got a deal on it, because of that very reason. It was a dark grey house, two floors and six or seven bedrooms in total. A few of which was being used for things such as Novas playroom and gaming room, but other than that. I looked at the murky white veranda that went all around the front of the house. I saw Anna sitting on the steps, talking on the phone and waved as we pulled around.

I opened the door, and had to catch Ricky from falling out backwards. “Jesus. You idjit.” pulling him back up straight and waited for Josh and Chris to get out of the truck on their side, Ricky scooted over and I stepped out of the truck, Ricky climbed out behind me shutting the door. I walked around the truck only too come face to face with my sister, who in turn wrapped her arms around me, overjoyed that I was back. I wrapped my arms around her neck, as she was good deal shorter than me. I put my face on her head, enjoying the best loving hug a person could get; one from your siblings. She was twenty two years old and I was twenty four, and we still hugged and acted like we haven’t seen each other in forever even though we only seen each other just last night. “Hey Ann.” I whispered

“Jen, I didn’t know what to think when you left, suddenly. I freaked at mom, told her too the hell out of my house.” She pulled away and looked at me, her eyes sad. “And I tried calling you and texting you, but you wouldn’t answer and I was so worried something happened when you left on your bike, I thought you got into an accident. Because Nova told me later on that you had some serious bruising all over you when the paramedic checked you and I was so scared.” She rushed out, almost out of breath.

“Okay, okay. Ann, calm down I’m fine.” I looked at Chris, Ricky and Balz. “I ran into some people that helped me last night.” She looked over to where I was staring at the guys, and I saw her eyes widen. “What are they doing here?” She asked.

“Well, Chris being the ever romantic, he wanted to come surprise me. The other two I’m not so sure, but I was glad they came too.” I gave a dry laugh at Rickys and Joshs expressions. I kept my arm around my sisters shoulder and she put her arm around my waist. “So, guys, this is my younger and most amazing little sister; Anna Soren.”

She looked at me with a devious smile. “Can we?” She asked.

“Maybe, I don’t know if they’re ready for it yet.”

“But, it would be funny.”

“I know, but I think we should give them a moment to adjust.”

“Adjust too what?” I heard the three of them ask.

I looked back at Anna, grinning. “Yeah, I think it best we wait.”

She laughed. “Sounds peachy.” She waved too the guys, as we started walking up the steps. “Come on in everyone, I was just going to make some lunch. Well more like I’m voluntelling Jenny too help me.” The guys gave each other weird looks, but followed nonetheless. We walked in and made ourselves comfortable on the leather couches in the living room.

It didn’t take long before things started getting chaotic.
