Where Do We Go From Here?

"Yeah, he's a real keeper."

I walked out of my room and into the kitchen. There was the scent of coffee and bacon wafting through the air that made me wake up in a lighter mood rather than in my usual grumpy state. In the kitchen I found both Jason and Cassandra standing next to the island with a bunch of pans and mixing bowls laying out across the counter top.

“What’s with the mess?” I mumbled out.

Cassandra looked flustered. “I was planning on making a nice breakfast for you and your parents, but I’m no good with cooking.”

Jason chuckled. “I will be the sole chef when we get married.”

I laughed. “Well, you did have a knack for cooking.”

I sat at the counter, enjoying the way the two worked in the kitchen. Cassandra started off good, but soon grew more flustered as the bacon sizzled and popped on the stove. Cassandra took the bacon off the stove and placed them on a plate that had a napkin on it. She then attempted to start making pancakes, but gave up while handing the cooking apron and spatula over to Jason. Jason gladly took over while Cassandra took a seat next to me, pouring the each of us a glass of orange juice.

“That Tony kid seems to be a pretty good guy.” Jason commented as he poured some of the batter onto the skillet.

“Yeah, he’s a real keeper.” I answered impassively.

“Don’t try to brush it off, baby sis. You two really, really like each other.” Jason teased.

I rolled my eyes.

“The guy is willing to watch the entire trilogy of Lord of the Rings with you.” He pointed out.

I scoffed. “Who hasn’t seen that trilogy?!”

Cassandra’s face turned pink as I exclaimed my question. “I actually haven’t.” She said in a sheepish voice.

I palmed my forehead. “Well, you might just be able to watch it with me and Tony.” I sighed before glancing at the calendar that hung on the wall next to the kitchen door. “Today we’re all visiting Ronnie.”

Jason offered a weak smile. “I’m wondering if I should tell her the news or not.”

Cassandra wore a solemn face. “I don’t mind if we hold back on that. I’m sure she has a lot on her plate at the moment.”

“Actually, I think some good news just might make her feel better.” I chimed in. “I think your guys’s engagement just might give her something to look forward to.”

“You think so?” Jason asked.

I shrugged. “I mean, it’s better than just talking about her illness. I know Ronnie may not voice it, but I know when she gets sick of us talking about her eating disorder.”

Jason pondered on my sentence for while before flipping the pancakes. It wasn’t long until my father came walking in with his bathrobe tied around his tall frame. He walked straight to the coffee maker, pouring the steaming hot coffee into his mug before leaning against the kitchen counter, facing the rest of us.

“Smells good in here, son.” My father commented after sipping some of his coffee.

“Thanks pop.” Jason smiled broadly.

“What time are we leaving for West Brooke?” I asked.

“Visiting hours on the weekend doesn’t start until 10, so we’ll probably leave the house quarter till then.” He answered.

I glanced at the clock, noting that it was already 8:30 in the morning. “Hey dad, do you think I can maybe send one text to Tony. I forgot to tell him that we were gonna visit Ronnie today.”

My father looked at me doubtfully.

“I don’t want him to show up at our house and no one’s home.” I explained.

My father sighed. “Fine, but you’re only allowed to text Tony and that’s it.”

I wanted to scoff. I didn’t have an extensive list of friends, so the only people I’d actually talk to are Tony and Callie. Other than that, I don’t really contact anyone.

I forced a smile. “Thanks.”

My father reached into the drawer that we’ve come to label as our miscellaneous drawer. It literally had the oddest things in there: a pair of scissors, thumbtacks, envelopes, junk mail, and even duct tape. He extracted my phone and handed it to me. I quickly turned it on, waiting for my cell phone to come to life.

“You’re very fond of him?” My father asked with a knowing smile.

I felt my cheeks heat up. “I guess.” I shrugged.

“Verity is in love with him.” Jason teased.

I rolled my eyes. “No, I’m not.”

“Hey, it only took a few months for me to fall madly in love with the future Mrs. Abraham.” Jason smirked.

“Well, it’ll definitely take me a long time to fall in love.” I remarked.

My phone finally came to life. A few text messages dinged off as I scrolled down to Tony’s name, opening a new message as I did so.

Me: Morning. My family and I are heading up to West Brooke for the morning to visit my sister. I won’t be home until noon. I thought I’d let you know since we’re supposed to have a LOTR marathon.

With my father being occupied while talking to Cassandra and Jason, I opened up another message box to text Callie.

Me: I haven’t asked my parents about the pep rally yet, but they seem to be loosening the reigns, so fingers crossed.

Ding!

Tony: Sounds good. And of course we’re still on for that LOTR marathon. I expect to be amazed ;)

Ding!

Callie: *crossing fingers* if you can’t come then don’t worry about it. I’ll understand, but it’ll suck without you. :(

I decided to text Tony back first.

Me: It’s a Peter Jackson film, of course you’ll be amazed.

Going back to the conversation with Callie and I, I texted

Me: You’ll survive. Mike can be my replacement. When’s the pep rally again?

Ding!

Tony: Peter who? Anyway, what time will you be back home? :)

Me: Peter Jackson #-_- and I’ll probably be home sometime around 2.

Ding!

Callie: It’s at 5, right before the game which is at 6 :)

Me: Might be cutting it close. Tony and I were gonna have an LOTR marathon.

Ding!

Tony: I’ll be there! See you soon ;)

Me: Okay.

Ding!

Callie: You’re ditching me for LOTR?! Haha jk, well no problem. I’ll see you Sunday morning if anything. Hopefully your parents will let me come over.

Me: Of course they will! See you then.

I looked up to the sight of my father staring at me suspiciously. “You seem to be sending out more than one text.”

“That’s because Tony kept replying back.” I half lied.

“Sure.” My father replied doubtfully.

I held back the urge to roll my eyes. “He says he’ll come by the house around 2.”

“Okay, well we better get started on eating breakfast if we wanna make it to West Brooke before traffic becomes heavy.” My father commented.

I furrowed my brows; aware of the fact that my mother wasn’t around. “Where’s mom?” I asked.

“She went to Yia Yia’s to tell her about Ronnie.” My father replied. “I’m sure they’ll meet us there.”

I almost forgot that Yia Yiá wasn’t aware of Ronnie’s condition; partially because we didn’t want her to worry, but also because Yia Yiá was an old Greek woman who tended to overreact. I smiled at my father reassuringly before making my plate and eating.

Notes

I'll try to update again tonight, but I am actually in the midst of camping at the moment so the internet connection is less than superb.

BTW I watched TFIOS yesterday, and I will shamelessly admit that I cried like a little bitch!

Hope you enjoy this chapter and let me know what you think <3

It's 2:14am and I have to get ready for work at 5:45am but yet I am reading this story because Im obsessed. I'm on chapter 20 and am dying of the cuteness. THIS STORY IS AMAZING.

YESYESYESYESYEYSYESYESYES

*tears* Aww. That was a great end! It wasn't annoyingly ambiguous. If you find a plat suitable for a sequel, then please don't even hesitate to write it. But I wouldn't mind reading a different stroy by you either.
