Where Do We Go From Here?

"I find that hard to believe."

I was laying on my roof when I heard Callie’s voice nearing my room. I couldn’t make out what she was saying, but she bursted into my room with hints of giggles flooding from her mouth.

“You there V?” She asked while nearing my window.

“Yeah.” I called back.

Callie climbed out and joined me. Since we were kids we would do this, so it wasn’t anything unusual for her.

After situating herself comfortably next to me, Callie asked “So, did Tony come over?”

“He did.” I nodded, refusing to go into detail on what happened. I wasn’t sure that I could contain the cliché teenagey feeling I’ve been having since he left if I were to explain myself.

“That’s it? Did he do or say anything?” She asked searching for any kind of reaction from me.

“He brought me soup and a grilled cheese.” I offered.

“So cute!” She squeaked. “What else? Did you two kiss?”

I rolled my eyes. “No, he dropped off some food for me and then left.” I was partially lying, but that’s because it’d be hard to explain why I invited Tony up to my room. Knowing Callie, if I told her about that bit then she’d go off on a tangent on how Tony and I were in love. The idea of that conversation made me wince.

Callie chewed on her bottom lip. “Well, at least now I know he really likes you.” She commented.

“And how’s that?” I asked blandly.

“Because a guy doesn’t leave campus to bring a girl he doesn’t like soup and grilled cheese. And Mike might have mentioned something to me.” Callie answered with a huge grin plastered on her face. It was a smile that resembled a cat-got-the-canary look.

“What did he say?” I asked. She caught my attention, since this entire time I thought Tony was going after Callie. Isn’t that why he asked if she was single?

“As of Austin’s party the other night, Mike and I have been talking.” Callie started giggling.

“Okay.” I said hesitantly. I didn’t necessarily see that coming, but it also wasn’t a shocker to me.

“And Mike said that Tony was asking about you, like who you’ve dated and what kind of things you were into. So, Mike asked me some stuff about you for Tony.” She smiled.

I stared at my best friend with a blank expression, but on the inside my thoughts were frantic.

Tony liked me? That sounded absurd! I’m not even his type, hell I don’t know his type. Why would he even like me? I’m boring and moody and nothing compared to Callie’s beauty. I’m plain as cardboard and embarrassingly temperamental.

“Well last time I recalled, Tony was asking about your relationship status.” I pointed out to Callie.

That was the first time I ever spoke to Tony. I remembered that day since it was also the day that he asked Callie and I to go to Austin’s party.

“He was asking for Mike.” Callie rolled her eyes.

What? That’s so stupid! What is this junior high?” I nearly shouted while sitting up. I had a slight head rush as my blood evened out in my head—combine that with the medicine I’ve been taking throughout the day, and I can justifiably say that I feel lightheaded.

“Apparently, Tony is a shy guy.” Callie giggled.

I rolled my eyes. No he’s not. He’s Tony Perry, the guy I’ve seen working his womanizer magic on innocent, naïve girls. If I fall for his charm—which is unlikely because I steer clear of any affection from the opposite sex—I will be no better than those other girls.

“I find that hard to believe.” I said dryly.

“Look at all the evidence!” Callie exclaimed. “He’s reading that sad book you love so much, he constantly finds ways to talk to you even though you aren’t the warmest ray of sunshine, and, and he ditched school to bring you soup! Soup!” Callie said once more for emphasis.

I laughed. “That could mean a number of things.”

“Please explain, V because I highly doubt anything you say will make sense.” Callie challenged.

“Okay,” I began. “Maybe, Tony actually likes to read which explains why he would try to read a story I suggested. Maybe, Tony is a glutton for punishment which is why he enjoys talking with me, and finally, maybe Tony was just extending a hand of kindness to bring me soup. Soup!” I mimicked Callie who laughed at me.

“I said explain it so it makes sense.” Callie countered.

I rolled my eyes. “I’m just giving the three reasons that popped into my head.”

Callie sighed, knowing it was pointless to argue with me. “Where’s your mom, by the way. I pulled in and only your dad was home.”

My face dropped a little. “She’s in New York.”

“For a conference?”

“No, my sister is in the hospital.”

“What?” Callie asked with concern. “What happened?”

I sighed because I was worried that I hadn’t heard from my mother yet. “Apparently, Veronica is in the hospital because she was severely underweight.”

I heard Callie gasp. “Oh my God.” She said softly.

“Yeah, I never thought that Veronica would do something like that.” I added, looking out into the darkening sky.

“What’s gonna happen with her?” Callie asked after a brief moment of silence passed between us.

“Other than after she’s released from the hospital, I’m not too sure.” I crossed my legs and dropped my hands in my lap.

Callie’s voice dropped to a whisper as she leaned her head on my shoulder. “I’m sorry, V.”

A weak smile formed on my face. “I’m fine.” Changing the subject because I was tired of worrying, I asked her “So are you and Mike official?”

Before answering, Callie’s eyes assured me that I’ll be fine. We’ve been friends long enough to know what a single look in our eyes meant. “Not yet, but I’m hoping it’s soon because he’s really nice.” She smiled broadly.

I nodded. “From what little interaction I had with him, I know he’s not an ass.” I offered.

Callie smiled. “He’s invited me to go to the beach with them this Saturday. You should come!” She said with enthusiasm.

“I’m not too sure.” I replied with hesitancy.

“C’mon V, it’ll be fun. We can go swimming, we can build sand castles, we can tan.” She began, listing different types of beach activities.

I stared at my thick body. I don’t look great in a bikini and if I wear a one piece, I’ll get a ridiculous tan. “I might have to work.” I lied.

“V, I know your schedules as well as you do.” Callie countered before reciting it. “Monday, Wednesday, and Friday’s you work. Every second Tuesday of the month you have your LGBT meetings at lunch and every Sunday you volunteer at the animal shelter.”

I sighed, hating that I was utterly predictable. “Maybe I want to spend my weekend doing things like homework and laundry.”

Callie narrowed her brilliant, blue eyes at me. “I’ll go only if you do.”

Gaping at her, I said “That’s not fair. I don’t want to be responsible for twat blocking you.”

Callie laughed. “Well, it’s just how it’s gonna be.”

Groaning in frustration, I said “Fine! I’ll go.” I covered my face to keep my prominent blush hidden from Callie.

“I promise you’ll have fun.” Callie assured me.

It didn’t matter though because I was cringing from the idea of me in a bathing suit.

It's 2:14am and I have to get ready for work at 5:45am but yet I am reading this story because Im obsessed. I'm on chapter 20 and am dying of the cuteness. THIS STORY IS AMAZING.

YESYESYESYESYEYSYESYESYES

*tears* Aww. That was a great end! It wasn't annoyingly ambiguous. If you find a plat suitable for a sequel, then please don't even hesitate to write it. But I wouldn't mind reading a different stroy by you either.
