Life's Too Short to Break Promises

Run

i stopped dead in my tracks and gasped as the ear wrenching scream across the dew covered field filled my ears. "Cammie…" I frantically ran toward where the shreak came from, i felt like life was in slow motion. I could feel my heartbeat in my ears. The wind whipped through my frizzy, damaged hair and the grass squeaked beneath my converse. I wanted to cry out and help her but i couldn't. My throat swelled and my toes went cold. But i was still running. sprinting. I used every ounce of my energy to not collapse beneath my black and blue splotched legs. Icicles hung high above me, threatening to pierce my exposed flesh. Beads of icy sweat dribbled down my neck and panic fled through my body. I spotted the limp mound of child on the ground. She was covered in blood. I froze as i stood over my daughters body. i knelt down next to her and scooped her into my arms. "why am i not screaming? why hadn't i gotten help? Hadn't anyone heard her scream in the park?" My hands flitted around, clueless on what to do. i dug through my jacket pocket and dug out my phone. My fingers fumbled over the keys as i dialed 911. a woman answered the phone in a calm voice " 911 whats your emergency?" my voice was shaking as i forced myself to say "h-help please! theres b-blood everywhere, i heard my daughter scream, I'm at Orangewood park, please hurr-" there was a sharp blow to my head, i felt the thick liquid drip down my face, and i collapsed to the grass. muffled voices were soon all around me, my vision became blurry, and i knew i was going to pass out. i held Cameron's hand in mine as i stared at her beautiful face of innocence, and i knew that that was the end of mine. Then gradually, everything was enveloped by darkness.
