Lucy.

“Two jobs, huh? That’s got to be rough.” Austin said as he took a sip of his drink.

“A girl’s got to do what a girl’s got to do, I’m afraid,” I shrugged. Yeah, okay, it took its toll on me sometimes, but I was only doing this until I could do what I really wanted to.

“Why does the girl got to do what she’s got to do?”

“I don’t have enough money to live on one job. So, I have this one as well as the one at Polly’s shop. It’s not too bad. I just don’t have a lot of free time,” I laughed.
“Do you have enough free time to maybe go out with me one day?” He said, a smirk plastered on his face.

A blush made its way onto my cheeks and I looked down briefly to hide it, “Maybe Austin, Austin Carlile.”

I tended to another few customers and it was finally time for my break. I sat next to Austin and we chatted about him. It’s not that he wasn’t letting me get a word in about myself; it was more that I didn’t want to put a word in about myself, not yet anyway. So far, I’ve learned that he is in a very heavy rock band – Of Mice & Men is their name. I’d made a mental note to check them out when I got in from work. He was the guy who screams, and they tour a lot. They have a new album – The Flood – coming out, he said he’s really excited about it. He said he loves touring and the band but he also loves having time to himself. He told me he was married, which is a weird thing to bring up to a girl you want to take out, but whatever, I guess he is just being honest. He told me it didn’t work out and I didn’t really want to push him for more information – I figured he’d tell me another time. He said he’s happier without her.

I had to get back to work for one last hour before I got to go home, and this time the whole place was much too busy to have chit chat with Austin, and anyway, it would appear his band mates had come. He was sitting in a round booth with them across from the bar, occasionally sneaking glances at me. I smiled and blushed every time he did so, but got on with my work. I quite liked the idea of having a date with this guy.

Once I was finally finished I came out from the bar and Austin stopped me as I’d just reached the door. He had grabbed my wrist and I turned around to face him, smiling at him.

“Yes?”

“Can I have your number?” He said nervously.

“Sure, give me your phone.” I said and punched in the numbers once he’d handed me his phone. “It was really nice speaking to you.”

“Yeah, you too Lucy,” he smiled, giving me a friendly hug before I left. Man, he smelled so good.
I hopped into my car and sat my phone and bag down on the passenger seat. My phone went off automatically, and once I’d buckled my seatbelt I checked it. It was a text and it was from an unknown number. Austin. “So what about that date?” It read. I laughed, quickly typing my reply before starting the car and heading home, probably to listen to some Of Mice & Men and then sleep for the longest sleep I’ve had in a few weeks.

Austin.

“Eyyy, Carlile grew some balls and got that girls number!” Alan cheered and the other guys laughed.

I rolled my eyes, “Shut up Alan.”

“So, what’s the deal? Is she going to go out with you?” Tino asked.

“I don’t know, man. I hope so.”

“She was pretty fucking hot. I have a feeling I recognise her from somewhere though,” Alan said.

“Like where?” I asked, now curious as to what he was talking about.

“I don’t know. It’ll come to me eventually,” He shrugged.

I couldn’t stop thinking about her. I couldn’t understand how one girl could be so beautiful. She was so intriguing. I found myself opening up to her, telling her lots of things about me in the fifteen minutes that was her break, but I remember her not telling me much – in fact, I don’t remember her telling me anything about her at all. My phone buzzed in my pocket and I pulled it out, seeing a text from her. I smiled as I opened it up.

I smiled and text her back, telling her thank you and slid my phone back into my pocket.

“What ya smiling at, huh?” Alan teased.

I again, rolled my eyes, “None of your business,”

“It’s that girl! Why are you so smitten already?” He laughed.

“I’m not smitten,” I defended, “She just intrigues me,”

“I asked Maddie if she knew a girl called Lucy, by the way, and she told me that if it’s Lucy Wynters – then she’s worked with her in a modelling job,” Alan told me.
“I’ll ask her what her second name is. Hold on,” I said, pulling my phone out again.
