Here's a Story, Just Bare With Me...

These are the Memories Between Us

[Ellie's POV]

“Bye Ellie, it was nice meeting you!” Phil chimed as he left the cab and walked to his front door. I said my farewells before the cab pulled away from his drive heading for our final destination – Alan’s house. It turns out Austin is currently staying with Alan because his ex-girlfriend kicked him out after the argument that ended their relationship.

“So how did the band start out?” I asked, turning to the two tattooed men.

“Well it’s a little complicated,” Austin began, “I founded it with this guy called Jaxin. Anyway, we were looking for members and found Tino, this guy called Jon Kintz, and Phil, so Jaxin and I moved to South California to join them. A little while after Jon was kicked out and replaced with Shayley.”

“Bourget? The really awesome singer from Dayshell?!” I blurted.

“The one and only. After Shayley joined I left because I needed heart surgery ‘cause I’ve got Marfan’s. Jerry Roush took my position, and I met Alan on a Christian dating site. We started working on our own project and the band contacted me asking me to return, which I did but with Alan. He went onto rhythm and Shayley went to bass, before Shayley left. I took over all vocals for the third album whilst we got Aaron as a touring sub for bass, then Aaron became a member just in time for our fourth album.”

“Y’know most bands change members once or twice,” I laughed.

“Yeah, it’s been a little busy but now everything just feels right, as if we were meant to go through that many members to learn what works well and what doesn’t.”

I smiled and nodded as my reply since I didn’t have anything else to say. The cab slowed before it came to a stop outside of what I assumed to be Alan’s place.

“We’re here,” he smiled, making my stomach flip at how adorable he looked. However his face quickly fell and a frown was beginning to form. I guess I must have looked confused and worried because he then explained: “You’re bleeding Ells.”

“Huh?” I said, mentally slapping myself for sounding so dumb.

“Your lip, it’s bleeding.”

“It is?” I asked, as I pulled my lip as far forward as I could to try and see the cut.

“Why were you biting it so hard?” he asked after I had finished embarrassing myself, a small smile tugging at the corner of his mouth as if he knew the answer.

“No idea,” I lied, looking down to hide the blush that was appearing on my pale face.

[Alan’s POV]

“No idea,” she replied as she looked at her lap to hide her blush.

“HATE TO RUIN YOUR CONVERSATION BUT I’M DYING FOR A PISS,” Austin yelled from the porch, surrounded by our bags. He’d gotten them all out without our help, but that must have taken ages. How long had we been talking?

“Alright, alright. Don’t get manstrual on my ass, Carlile,” I replied as me and Ellie left the cab and walked up to the front door.

“Fucking hell, change your name to Alan Sassby,” Ellie said, causing me and Austin to laugh.

I unlocked the door before immediately being pushed out of the way – causing Ellie to fall on the ground and me to fall on her – by Austin running to the bathroom.

“Fuck! Sorry,” I cursed, my face inches from hers. “Shit, are you okay?”

“Fine,” she whispered. Her voice was barely audible. Without thinking I closed the distance between us, her lips soft against mine. She kissed back momentarily, but quickly pulled away looking like she’d just remembered something.

“We should go inside and sort our bags out,” she said flatly, looking everywhere but at me.

“Uh, yeah. Okay,” I muttered hiding the hurt that would have been evident in my voice. I
stood and helped her up whilst ensuring she hadn’t gotten any head injuries from the fall, then we grabbed the bags and brought them inside where a relieved-looking Austin was led on the sofa, his long, skinny legs dangling over the armrest.

“Nice piss?” Ellie teased.

“Fucking amazing, thanks for asking,” he countered. “Yo, Ashby! What’s for dinner?”

“I was thinking we should just order a take-out, there’s no fucking way I’m cooking on the first night back from tour.”

“Good idea. Ellie, you like Chinese?”

“Uh, I guess. It’s alright though, I’m not hungry.”

“Nonsense, we’re having Chinese. End of,” Austin smiled, probably trying to relax Ellie who had stiffened at the mention of food. “Alan honey, you know my usual,” he winked and blew me a kiss, causing her to look confused and shocked. Austlan Cashby was clearly a new concept for her.

“No, we’re not gay. The fans ‘ship’ us.”

“Of course, because you’re not even a little camp at all,” she winked, sarcasm dripping from her every word. I simply flicked her nose which caused her to screw her face up and bat my hand away.

Once our food had been ordered, delivered, and eaten Austin went to bed, leaving me and Ellie to talk about all of our memories. She’d reminded me of all of the embarrassing things I’ve ever done and I was thankful Austin wasn’t there to hear them. We were currently laughing about one memory of a prank I had pulled that involved flour, balloons, paint, and a locker belonging to a guy who had made fun of her, when I remembered the box. I yelled a ‘hold on’ to Ellie as I ran up the stairs, into my room and over to my closet. I opened the doors and reached up grabbing the old shoebox from the shelf, before closing the doors and running back to Ellie.

“What’s that?”

“Memories,” I said as I handed her the box and sat in front of her. I watched her leaf through the contents and she would mutter an ‘oh my god’ every now and then, her expression changing between happiness, sadness, amusement, and shock at each object and their individual memories attached to them.

“I can’t believe you kept all these,” she admitted. Her eyes were glossing over from the tears she was holding back and she was grinning like mad.

“Of course I kept them,” I said as I pulled her onto my lap to comfort her, “I did have the photos up around the place but I had to take them down, it was too painful for me to look at them because I thought I’d never see you again.”

“I missed you so much.”

“I bet I missed you more,” I confessed as I looked down at her. Her eyes were big and innocent, hair had stuck to her cheeks because of the tears that were falling. I reached into the box and pulled out something she hadn’t seen before, her jaw dropped when I handed it to her.

“You kept my goodbye letter?” She looked at me, and I nodded in response, and then her face fell.

“What’s wrong Ells?”

“I’m so sorry. I didn’t even say goodbye properly. I just left you,” she cried. I held her closer to me and rubbed circles on the small of her back, knowing that calms her down, whilst reassuring her that I wasn’t mad and I knew she had no choice in staying or going.

“Do you want to know?”

“Do I want to know what?”

“In the letter you said you didn’t want to know what the kisses meant to me at that time. Do you want to know now?” I explained, and waited for her response.
