Looks Can Be Deceiving

Pandora’s POV -
I opened my eyes, blinded by my phone. I rubbed my eyes and sat up, careful not to wake Austin. August’s name popped up on the screen.
“Shit…” I whispered. I grabbed it and softly walked downstairs and outside onto Austin’s balcony. “Hello?”
“Hey, where are you? Did your flight leave yet?”
“Eh…” I looked down at my bare feet. “I decided against leaving.” I squeezed my eyes shut, preparing for the lecture I was about to get. He let out his breath.
“Thank god, I’m so happy you’re staying there.”
“What?” I opened my eyes, confused.
“You know it’s not safe for you here. Trying to protect you would be like trying to keep a cat from a mouse.” I giggled at his analogy.
“What?” he chuckled. “You and I both know it’s true. Jules and his gang are all still trying to find you. Where you are now is safe.”
“Not really,” I sighed. “You know he has people looking for me here too.” I turned around to make sure Austin wasn't listening in. “What happens when they find me here?”
“You’ll have to pick up and move just like you always have in the past.”
“I… I don’t want to leave Austin. I don't know if I can.”
“Pandora, has this man really made that much of an impact on you? You haven't even known him for that long.”
“I know, but he’s so amazing, August. I actually trust him. You know how long it takes me to trust people! Things like this don't happen every day. There’s just something about him-”
“Alright, I don't want to hear about any of his tricks.”
“No, he’s not like that at all, seriously. I wouldn't be with him if he was.”
“Alright, so where are you right now?” I swallowed. “And the answer is?”
“His house.”
“And, when I called you, where were you sleeping?” I rolled my eyes.
“In his bed.”
“Uh huh… and I’m assuming he was in it as well, yes?”
“Yes he was, but that doesn't mean anything.”
“Pandora, being your big brother comes with many responsibilities. I’m not there to see what’s all going on but I’m trusting that you’re making the right decisions, alright?” I sighed.
“I love you August.” I closed my eyes, a feeling of homesickness washing over me. Tears fell down my cheeks.
“Pandora… don’t cry…”
“When can I just live my life without being afraid? I’m sick of running.”
“Listen, I know things seem difficult right now. With me being in a completely different country, I can’t do much to comfort you. It kills me, but it’s the truth. You need to stay strong. They don't know where you are and without that they can’t get you.” I nodded. “Does Austin know what’s going on?”
“No.”
“You need to let him know so he can protect you.”
“I don’t want to drag him into this, August. He could get hurt. You know what Jules is capable of doing.” The thought of anyone hurting Austin because of me made me sick.
“Why don’t you get some sleep?” he suggested. “It’s been a long day.”
“You’re right. I’m overthinking everything right now.”
“Goodnight little sister. Don’t forget how much I love you.”
“I love you too August.” I ended the call and sighed, remembering that I was standing outside and I didn't have any pants on. Thank god Austin lived somewhere private. I made my way back upstairs and snuck into Austin’s bedroom. I slowly crawled into bed, closing my eyes.
“Are you aright baby?” Austin whispered, half asleep.
“Yeah, I was just talking to my brother.” He lifted up his head, looking down at me.
“You sound like you’ve been crying. Is he okay?”
“Yeah, he’s good.”
“Then what’s going on?” he propped his head up on his hand and draped his arm over my belly. I shrugged. “Hm?” he hummed. “Talk to me, beautiful,” His hand brushed the hair out of my face before he leaned down to press his nose into my neck.
“I guess I’m a little homesick,” I whispered.
“Do you wanna fly out and visit him? We can do that. Or you can go alone if you want.”
“No, I’m sure I’ll feel better in the morning.” I wrapped my arms around his neck and smiled. “Are you sure?” I nodded as he laid back down next to me. I rest my head on his chest, feeling it slowly rise up.
“Laying with you is so comforting,” I mumbled.
“If you still feel homesick in a few days, we’ll fly out alright?” I smiled, pressing my lips to his warm chest.
“Thank you for being so patient with me.”
“I just want you to be the happiest you can be,” he whispered.
