Looks Can Be Deceiving

Angels

The sun outside shone through the blinds in my room, hitting my line of vision. I had been sitting in my room waiting to feel normal before I left for the airport. After calling to see what flights I could take, I found out that I’d have to wait until four to leave. It was now 2:30 and I was getting anxious. My bags were packed, my doors locked. All I had to do was push the noises out of my head so I could get to the airport and board my flight. Soon everything would be alright. I would see August and Charlotte. This place wasn’t my home. England was my home… Austin was my home. Tears ran down my cheeks thinking about sweet Austin. He was my safety, my warmth, my comfort. I had pushed it all away, not realizing the long term damage I would face. I pulled myself to my feet, rolling my suitcase across the floor and to the stairs. Although I knew Austin’s car was long gone, I checked my driveway one more time. A part of me hoped he’d still be there, but he’d left hours ago. I pulled my hood up over my head, feeling a sense of security. I walked out onto my front porch, keeping my head down. I didn’t want to be asked any questions, I didn’t want to be bothered. I concentrated on staying on my feet despite the dizzy spell running around in my head. The hot California sun beat down on me, making my body feel rushed. I climbed into the driver seat of my car after tossing my luggage in the back. My fingers trembled, making it hard to put the key into the ignition.
“Pandora, what are you doing? You can’t run away from your problems.” My heart froze as I kept my eyes on the steering wheel. “Baby go back to Austin, he’ll take care of you and you know it.”
“No,” I choked out, laying my head down as I let out my emotion. “This isn’t real,”I breathed. “You aren’t real.”
“I may not be real, but you can see me, can’t you?” I kept my eyes shut, not wanting to open them. “Look at me, Pandora.” My head felt heavy as I lifted it off the steering wheel. There she was, just as beautiful as I remember her.
“Mom why are you here?” I whispered.
“I’m here to help, love. Stop listening to those darn voices in your head baby girl. They’re getting you into nothing but trouble. I know you miss August, but don’t go back to England. you know how dangerous it is for you to be there. Jules and his team are still looking for you, every day they’re out searching for you and they won’t stop until you’ve found you.”
“They won’t find me, they don’t know where August lives.”
“You know they have people all over looking for you. There’s even people in America watching out for you. This isn’t just about Jules anymore. He has a whole army out for your blood. I will not let you die the same way your sister and I did. I know you hurt Austin, but he’s not upset about you pushing him. He’s upset about you leaving. He thinks he did something wrong. If you go back and explain what’s going on, he’ll understand and forgive.”
“He didn’t do anything wrong, momma. I’m just not good for him. I’m sick and he can’t heal me.”
“Maybe he can’t heal you but he can definitely keep you out of harm and give you love. He can’t do anything if you’re in England.”
“I can’t let him see me like this… No one can love someone who’s crazy.” My mom shook her head, looking down to the ground.
“Is that what daddy told you?” I nodded, my eyes burned by the hot tears. “Why on earth would you listen to that man?”
“I can’t get his voice out of my head.”
“Panda Bear, you listen to me. Go back to Austin. England is not safe for you.”
“I don’t care I need to be surrounded with family.” I glanced down at the clock, my heart jumping out of my chest. “I’m sorry momma but I really have to go.” I turned the key and started my car, my mom’s figure disappearing. I glanced back to my house once more before heading off.
