Looks Can Be Deceiving

After dinner, the two of us sat on the couch talking. She sat next to me as I snaked my arm around her shoulder, gently rubbing her soft skin with my fingertips.
“So, you’re a senior in high school?” She nodded, looking over at the TV. “And you’re brother is… twenty two?”
“Yeah…”
“So he’s in college?”
“Yeah… he’s going to be a lawyer,” she said softly.
“A lawyer,” I smiled. “He’ll get paid well. Do you talk to him a lot?”
“Eh, once and a while over the phone we’ll talk for a little while.”
“Where does your little sister live? With your parents?”
“No, she stays with August.”
“Hm, so it doesn’t seem like you talk to your parents.” She shrugged and I could tell she was getting uncomfortable. “I don’t talk to my father much either.” She looked over to me for the first time in a while.
“Do you guys have a good relationship?”
“Not really. We don’t talk much.” She nodded as the front door shot open. Alan, Phil and Tino all stumbled in. Alan drunkenly laughed, and waved. I could feel Pandora tense up quite a bit.
“What are you two lovebirds up to?” he slurred. Pandora looked over to me and gave a small smile.
“I have to get going, Austin. But thank you for having me,” she stood up and headed to the door.
“Pandora wait,” I got up as Tino put his arm around her.
“Stay for a while,” he muttered. She jumped and shook him off of her, but he hugged her. “Please get off of me,” she breathed out, closing her eyes. She looked like she wanted to cry. Tino backed off as he sensed the sincerity in her voice. She moved to the front door as fast as she could before running out to her car. Alan looked to me in a drunken daze.
“What’s her problem.”
“Drunk people, Alan. That’s her problem!” I yelled. Phil’s mouth dropped open as he gasped.
“What did we just do?” he asked, looking to Tino.
“I don’t get it,” Alan slurred. I rolled my eyes and pushed past them, running after Pandora. I was too late, she was already gone.
