100 Sleepless Nights

Day 14: Glass Hearts

"That Vic kid is so creepy, why do you hang around with him?" Kellin asked as he pulled into my driveway.

"He's a nice kid, when he's not being totally creepy" I laughed. I looked over at Vics house. "Maybe I should go over and invite him to hang with us, then you can see how harmless he is" I suggested. Kellin made a weird face at the thought of that. "Or not" I mumbled as I slipped out of the car. I slammed the door shut and walked around to be greeted by Kellin.

"I don't think you're dad likes me" Kellin whined, for the millionth time. My parents invited him over for dinner tonight, since we were officially dating. I think they just wanted to make him uncomfortable and embarrass me by bringing out old baby photos.

"My dad doesn't like anyone unless you're 20, have huge tits and willing to sleep with him. Do you have either of those features?" I asked.

"Your father is a dashing man..." He joked as we walked up the pathway to my house, hand in hand.

"Plot twist, you're only with me to get closer to my dad" I laughed. We reached my front door and I turned to him.

"Nah, I very much like the ladies I must say" He wiggled his eyebrows in a suggestive way. I rolled my eyes and turned, opening my front door.

"Let's go face the devil and his minion" I mumbled. My mother walked out into to foyer, grinning like a fool. To be honest my mom liked Kellin, she said he's sweet and gentleman like. My dad never really paid much attention, I honestly cannot stand the man.

"Harleigh, we've been waiting on you" My mom said cheerfully as she kissed the top of my head, which she never does meaning her fake persona is in full action now to make Kellin think she's some normal mom. "And Kellin, pleasure to meet you again. Come on in, your father and Taylor are already at the table. Dinners almost ready" My mom pushed us towards the dinning room.

"Sup Leigh" Taylor nodded towards me. I smiled and sat down, Kellin following my actions and sitting next to me.

"How's your apprentice thingy going?" I asked, taking a sip of the water infront of me.

"Not bad, not bad" She shrugged.

"So Harleigh how is school?" My father asked. I looked up at him curiously, he never asked how things were going for me.

"It's alright" I shrugged. I'm just gonna act like he normally does to me, see how he likes it.

"And you Kellin, I believe you're in a band or so I've heard" He was so faking an interest now.

"Yes sir, I am indeed" Kellin smiled politely. He probably just assumed my dad was interested but I know better.

"What's your bands name?" My dad asked.

"Sleeping With Sirens" Kellin smiled. My mom brought in some plates and set them down.

"I was in a band in high school, remember that?" My dad laughed and asked my mother. She laughed and nodded.

"God I know, you were so hot in those skinny jeans back then, when they originally came out" She shook her head.

"You were in a band?" I snapped my head around to look at my dad. He smirked and nodded. "Why didn't you ever tell me? You know I love music" I said looking down at my plate.

My mother came back through and we began eating. "So Harleigh, we're thinking of going away at Halloween, do you wanna come with us or stay here?" She spoke up. I looked up at her and shook my head.

"This house is very creepy, think how cool it'll be to scare little kids in the neighborhood?" I laughed.

"Okay, you would think of that" She laughed, shaking her head.

----

"Thanks for putting up with my moms annoying questions and my dads fakeness. They seem to like you though" I laughed with Kellin as I walked him out to his car.

"Well they are your parents and they seem lovely, well to me anyway" He wrapped his arms around my waist and kissed me softly. "Anyway, what do you wanna do for Halloween?" He smiled, leaning against his car.

I wrapped my arms around his neck and smiled. "I think we should make the house look really fucking creepy and scare kids, honestly I have such a great opportunity now."

"That sounds good. We still have like a month to decide our costumes" He winked at me. I rolled my eyes and kissed him quickly.

"You best go man, I have homework to do" I laughed. He nodded and gave me one last hug then got in his car and drove off. I turned and walked back down the pathway to my house.

"Harleigh" I heard a voice. I turned around and seen Vic standing about 2 feet away from me.

"Oh, hi" I said softly. We haven't spoken since the concert incident so things are kinda awkward I guess.

"I wanna apologize. I know my actions last week were outta line" He stepped forward more.

"It's okay don't sweat it" I smiled. I could see the relief spread across his face. "Hey, do you wanna come in and play xbox or something?" I suggested.

"Sure" He nodded. I opened the door and he closed it behind him, we ran up the stairs and into my room. I turned my xbox and tv on and gave him one of the controllers.

"We should play Call of Duty: Nazi Zombies" I suggested. He just simply nodded.

"I haven't played this before, I haven't really played xbox ever really. My mom thinks technology is gonna distract me from my studies" He laughed.

I patted his knee. "It's okay, whenever you wanna play games come to me, I'll be like your secret stash" I smiled. He stared at me for a second and then looked back over at the screen.

The game began and Vic died in the first round. "Shit, I'm really bad at this" He groaned. "They're totally killing me" He pouted.

"Awh don't worry about it. We can play again" I suggested. He nodded and we began again.

"Harleigh, we're going to the movies now. I'll lock the door" My mom called up the stairs.

"Okay" I called back. I looked back round to Vic and he had been killed again. "My mom and dad are taking my sister to the movies to try and bond with her since the whole college drop out thing" I explained.

"Ah, why aren't you going?" He frowned. I smiled reassuringly.

"I want them to fix it, not just act like a happy family. Plus, you're keeping me company" I said starting a new game.

----

"No way dude, you're actually getting good at this" I whined. He was starting to kill more zombies than me and it meant I couldn't get enough points for guns.

"Sucks to be you" He stuck his tongue out at me.

"I'm gonna get a drink" I told him and went downstairs. I walked into the kitchen and got a glass out of the cupboard. I held it in my hand and for some reason it felt like someone was watching me. I looked around and didn't see anyone. I shrugged it off and walked over to the tap, turned it on and filled it up with water.

I drank the water quickly and as I was about to rinse out the glass it shattered in my hand. I let out a pained cry, blood began pouring from my hand. Footsteps ran down the stairs and Vic appeared. "Go away!" He shouted at nothing. I looked at him with confusion and then he ran over to me. "Are you okay?" He inspected my hand.

"Yeah it just a small cut thankfully. I just got a fright, it must have been cracked already from the move" I reasoned. He nodded in agreement.

The feeling of someone watching us returned, and Vic staring off into the corner where that vibe was coming from did not put me at ease. "Let's go back upstairs" He mumbled. I put the remains of the glass into the bin and we left the kitchen.

As we started to go up the stairs I felt something grab onto my ankle and pull me down the stairs. I tried to grab onto anything but it had a tight grip on me. Vic ran after me and lifted me up. Tears streamed down my face, whatever had a hold of me wasn't letting go. "Stop, stop.. STOP!" I screamed and kicked as Vic tried to drag me away.

He picked me back up properly and I felt the grip on my ankle disappear. I sobbed into Vics chest as he ran upstairs with me. He took me into my room and sat me down on my bed, I crawled to the head board and leaned against it, bringing my knees up to my chest. I stared at him with tears covering my face. "Please don't cry" He pleaded.

"What the hell was that?" I choked. He closed his eyes and sighed.

"This place is haunted, I mean really haunted" He told me. I tried to steady my breathing.

"Nothing has really happened until now, why?" I cried. He just shrugged.

"I should probably go" He started to stand up.

"No-- you can't leave me here alone" I begged. I got on my knees and begged.

He stared down at me and nodded. "Okay" He mumbled.

I laid down and he did the same. He cuddled me until I fell asleep but my dreams were filled with monsters and demons.
