100 Sleepless Nights

Day 2: Such A Cold, Cold World

School was just as much bullshit as I assumed it was gonna be. Everyone treated me like an outsider but that's no surprise to me, everyone is destained to hate me. The guys there looked at me as though I was the most disgusting thing they'd ever seen and the girls laughed at my terrible attempt of being a girl. It was all bullshit, and it's only my first day.

I sat alone, under a tree outside the school. My head was pounding, everyone frustrated me. They made me feel useless, they made me feel... dead. Maybe I am dead. "Hello" I looked up to see where the voice had came from.

A boy around my age stood infront of me. He had longish black hair that sat on his shoulders, green eyes that caught my attention quickly. Tight jeans clung to his legs and a Green Day shirt hung loosely over his chest. "Hi" I said softly, still taking a minute to work this guy out.

He sat down infront of me with a huge grin plastered on his face. "I'm Kellin, what's your name?" He seemed so happy, how is that possible in such a dull place.

"Harleigh, I just moved here" I looked at his eyes, they lit up slightly.

"I thought so, people talk fast around here" He said looking around to his peers. "They're all so full of shit you know, they have quickly judge you without even saying a word. That's why I thought I'd come and say hello. You seem cute" He smiled. I could feel my cheeks burn.

"Thanks" I mumbled, scared of my own voice at this moment in time.

"So where did you move from? You're so pale, haven't you ever been in the sun?" He giggled, his eyes were so beautiful to look at.

"Chicago, my parents moved us here because I'm pretty sure he fucked some 20 year old secretary" I shrugged, feeling slightly embarrassed. I probably shouldn't've said that but his sympathetic smile reassured me.

"Parents suck. My dad was the same to be honest" He looked down and began playing with the grass.

"I see you like Green Day" I nodded towards his shirt. He grabbed it between his hands and grinned.

"They're my favourite" He smiled, clearly feeling proud of himself.

"They're playing here next week, I was thinking of going" I sighed. "My sister usually goes to shows with me but I don't think she's sticking around for long" I explained.

"We should go together, I've always wanted to see them and none of my friends really like them so it'd be cool to go" He suggested, my head shot up and my eyes widened.

"Really?" I asked, shocked at his kindness.

"Of course, why not?" He laughed. "You seem cool and I like you already. It'll be fun. I'll get you a ticket. My treat"

I smiled, the first real genuine smile I think I've smiled in years. "Thank you Kellin" I could feel my cheeks burn with embarrassment again.

The bell for next class rang out. "Hey, do you need a ride home?" He asked, standing up and offering a hand to help me up.

"Um, yeah actually" I said, taking his hand and he pulled me up. "I had to sell my car before we moved" I sighed. "I'll take you home. Meet me here after school okay" He walked off into the crowd of people. I grabbed my bag and walked off to my next class.

----

The ride back to my house was silent except the radio playing softly. When we pulled up Kellin began laughing hysterically. "What?" I asked, confused.

"This is where you live?" He pointed at my house.

I scrunched up my eyebrows and nodded. "Yes, why?" I asked in confusion. "You're brave" He laughed. I cocked my head to the side. "You do know that place is seriously haunted right?" He glanced back at the house.

"I don't believe in ghosts Kellin" I smirked.

"Me and my friend broke into the house when we were like 11, no one lived there at the time. We went into the basement and I shit you not, there was this old woman there. She was dressed in clothes from like the 1900's or something" He laughed slightly.

"I think you're bullshitting" I smiled. "Or you're just a pussy" I rolled my eyes.

"I am not" He frowned.

"Prove it, come in for a bit" I smirked.

"Fine" He turned the car off and got out, I copied his actions and slung my backpack over my shoulders.

"Let's go meet the ghosts" I grinned and walked past him.

"Honestly, I'm not even kidden Harleigh" He trailed behind me. I unlocked the front door, my mom was probably out and my dad was at work. Taylor probably went shopping or something.

"Sorry if the place is a bit of a mess, we only moved in yesterday" I explained as I let him inside.

I closed the door behind him but left it unlocked. My parents should be home soon anyway. "It's okay, don't sweat it" He sounded a little, nervous.

"So let's see this basement that's so spooky apparently" I walked down the hallway until I reached the door of the basement. "Nervous" I said turning to Kellin and grinning.

"Nope" He said popping the p. I turned back to the door and opened it. Truth be told, this was my first time going down into the basement.

We both descended down the staircase into the basement. There was no light except a small window in the corner. We both walked further into the darkness. "See nothing down here" I turned to him and smirked, placing my hands on my hips. Suddenly some glass objected smashed into the ground behind me. I spun around and stared into the darkness. "Okay Kellin are you taking the piss or?" I asked frantically.

I felt Kellin grab my hand and pull me back. I let out a scream of fear when it came into view. It looked like a child, maybe 5 years old. Blood covering his face, his eye had been gouged out and he had a chelsea smile. Someone had tortured this soul. We both ran up the stairs and I slammed the door shut behind us and locked it. "See I told you this place was haunted!" He almost shouted.

Tears ran down my face, making my eyeliner spill all over my face. "Let's go outside" I sobbed. Kellin nodded and led me towards the front door.

"Who are you?" I heard Kellin say. My head snapped and that Vic kid from yesterday was standing in the doorway.

"I heard a scream from my house, I thought something bad happened" He looked frantic.

I wiped the tears away. "It's okay. Don't sweat it. We were just messing around and Kellin decided to scare me" I laughed.

He looked between me and Kellin. "Are you sure?" He asked.

"Yeah, I swear" I smiled. Vic simply nodded. "Hey, um I gotta get going but I'll see you at school tomorrow okay" Kellin said quietly.

"Okay, see you tomorrow" I replied, he gave me a small hug then left. Vic walked into the house more and smiled softly.

"Are you sure you're alright?" He looked really worried. I gotta be dreaming, two guys both wanting to be friends with me just doesn't seem like reality.

"I am, I promise" I smiled reassuringly.

Silence fell between us for a moment. "So is that your boyfriend?" He asked, looking at the floor.

"No, not at all. Just a friend" I blushed. Why would he ask that?

"Oh, okay" His head snapped and with a small smile on his lips. "We could hang out today if you wanted?" He suggested.

"Sure... I'll show you my room" I said walking towards the stairs.
