Don't Let Go

“How long does it take him to take a shower? Jesus.” Jade was sitting upside down in the backseat, while I was touching up my make-up for the millionth time today.
“What’s up with that shit eating grin you got on your face?” I looked at her through the mirror.
“You like him, don’t you?” She flipped herself around so that she sat up properly and practically flew to the front of the van. I hesitated with the words that refused to form on my lips. “Holy shit you do! YOU LIKE ALAN ASHBY!”
“Dude, shut the fuck up before someone hears you!” I covered her mouth, but she kept screaming it out, for the whole fucking venue to hear, when I heard a tap on the door.
We both jumped, hearing a muffled laughter, when I turned around to see the devil himself, in his ginger glory.
I opened the door, and almost fell out of the van. What can I say, I’m clumsy.
Of course, he was right there to catch me.
“You guys are gross,” Jade made a gagging noise, and my face went to the color of a cherry. Alan just smiled, like he didn’t know what was going on.

Breathe in. Breathe out. In. Out.
I am the stage. I am the music. I am the lyrics. I am the crowd.
In. Out.
I’m here to make the world know who I am. I’m here to kick ass and take names. I’m here to inspire and create.
Breathe.
It’s time to give the crowd a show they’ll never forget.
I rose my hands up as some people were chanting our name. My heart was pounding so hard, I thought it would burst from my chest. No one said anything, I looked all around, at the crowd, my band, and Alan standing on the sidelines. The smile on my face was as big as ever. I looked into the sky, put the microphone to my mouth, and started laughing. “This first song is called Coloring Outside the Lines.”
The intro to Coloring started, followed by the chorus of all our voices. Then, I began to sing; “I can see it clearly now, wrapped around your finger tips. You just keep holding me down to the weight of my regrets.” I felt the words flow off of me and into the sea of people that showed up, more and more with each beat.
The crowd was eating it up, some singing along, while others danced, surfed the crowd or were just enjoying the fuck out of our set.

The first song was done, and I couldn’t get the smile off my face. “WHAT THE FUCK IS UP, HOUSTON?!” I yelled, everyone cheering and screaming in response. “We are Disintegrated, from Chillicothe, Ohio and this next song is for my friends and family out there, and all of you! This next song is called I Set Myself On Fire,” and with that the song started and I sang my heart out, thinking of everything and everyone I’ve ever loved, lost, and hurt.
The rest of our set was a rush, it was amazing, and I never wanted it to stop. It was the biggest crowd we’d ever played for, and even though my nerves acted up, I survived, and it felt like the whole world was going to stop. With my vocals, Marshall’s screaming, and the rest of our instruments, we were unstaoppable.
“Alright, Houston…. This last song, you all might know. And if you don’t, well…” I let the grin turn almost devilish, “you’re about to. This last song is called We Are Never Getting Back Together.” It was my favorite song to sing, not only because I thought our version was a hell of a lot better, but because I always got to say that I’ve seen people form a mosh pit to a Taylor Swift song.
Nothing else in the world mattered to me more than my band, and our fans. It was us, the stage, and the hundreds of eyes looking out at us.
