Glass Hearts

They walked down the street and eventually found a taxi. She looked over, expecting him to be watching the rain slide down the window but instead she met his gaze. Her heart skipped a beat and he reached over and put his hand on her knee. She could feel the warmth through her jeans as they drove back up the winding road back up to the Alexandra Palace. She turned and looked out the window as they pulled into the driveway. Somehow the clouds had cleared and the view of London was amazing. They got out of the cab and crossed the parking lot towards the back door.
The breeze blew through her hair as Austin looked her in the eye and said, ‘it was really nice to meet you.’
‘Yeah. You too. I’ve never met a rock star before,’ she said with a smile.
‘Rock star? You mean a giant that screams at people,’ he said with a laugh.
They started walking down the hallway towards his dressing room. They could hear the voices of the rest of the band as they got closer to his dressing room. He took her hand and pulled her toward him. His smell filled her lungs as he kissed her gently.
She let go, knowing that would probably be the last time she saw him. He smiled as he turned towards the dressing room door.
‘Bye, Alex,’ he said as he winked and opened the door.
Her stomach dropped as she heard the door close as she turned and left, finding her way back to the parking lot to the bus stop at the front of the huge building. She stood under the street light and waited for the bus, thinking about her first day at work and watching the lights from the city below.
