The Calm
Chapter 49
-Scarlett’s POV-
Damn was I exhausted. Who knew that icing cupcakes all day could do this to you? I wanted food but was obviously too lazy to make anything. So as soon as this elevator took me to my floor, tv dinner it was.
As I walked towards my door, I heard slight music playing. Austin?
Opening it my nose was met with the aroma of food and Austin singing along to his own song. What a dork he was. How the hell did he get in here?
He didn’t hear me come in, which was perfect for my plan and I.
“Okay Carlile, how the fuck are you in my home again?” I asked in a serious and slightly angry way.
He turned to shut off the stove and turned back around.
“Erin had a key made for me that I was suppose to give to you. I’m sorry.” He said.
“Well you can keep the key silly. I’m joking.” I said as I walked up to him and wrapped my arms around his waist.
“Good” he said as he kissed my forehead.
“What’s this?” I asked pointing at the stove.
“I made us dinner.” He said and smiled proudly.
“Dork, are you trying to poison me?” I asked and laughed.
“It’s pasta with cooked veggies. Does that sound okay?” he asked like he was expecting me to say no and then throw a fit.
“I’m afraid I’ll have to order takeout.” I said and started laughing, “Duh it’s fine! Feed me already I’m hungry damn it!” I said and dramatically walked to the dining table.
Only around Austin could I feel this comfortable. I was still scared, but I had to put myself out there to him so he didn’t have any doubts either.
We ate our meal and made small talk. The food was actually good and I made sure to tell Austin that multiple times. I really appreciated him doing this for me.
“So how many cupcakes did you ice today?” he asked laughing at me because that was why I was exhausted.
“Well it should’ve been almost 900, but about 895…because I ate them and she doesn’t know so shhhhh!” I said and we both started laughing.
“What if she finds out?” He said and laughed.
“She has no security cameras on me, and who the fuck is going to want to count that many?”
“Good point. What the hell are they for?”
“The 3 shops for the afternoon. Erin is officially a psycho baker.” I said and laughed.
Did I fail to mention that we were on our third glass of fancy wine, and that things were getting hilarious? Well we are.
Both of us cleaned up and put the dishwasher on.
We decided to sit out on the balcony with; you guessed it, a fourth glass of wine. I was now tipsy and Austin was getting there.
“Are you tired baby?” he asked sweetly.
“Not yet” I said.
“Come here” he said as he patted his lap signaling me to sit on it.
I obliged and he wrapped his arms around me, nestling his face into my exposed neck. This was going to turn me on, ah Austin.
I took another sip of my wine and was focusing on the cars going up and down the roads.
“I’m sorry” he suddenly said.
“For what?”
“Breaking you then fixing you. It wasn’t fair and I feel terrible about it.”
“That’s the past Austin.”
“I know, but doesn’t it haunt you at night? Everything that happened? Because it sure as hell haunts me. There’s so many times that I messed up and just wish I could go back and fix it now.” He said.
“It does, but we can’t change it. We are together now and that’s that.” I said as I put my hands over his that were still wrapped around me.
“I love you Scarlett”
“I love you too.”

“I know, but doesn’t it haunt you at night? Everything that happened? Because it sure as hell haunts me. There’s so many times that I messed up and just wish I could go back and fix it now.” He said.
“It does, but we can’t change it. We are together now and that’s that.” I said as I put my hands over his that were still wrapped around me.
“I love you Scarlett”
“I love you too.”
