An Alan Ashby Fanfiction

Chapter Thirty-Nine

When I opened my eyes, it was pitch black. I lifted my head to see who I had been leaning on and I found that it was Phil.
“Hey, you’re finally awake.” He smiled at me, “It’s just you and me, all the guys went to bed.”
“How long was I out?” I rubbed my eyes.
“Well you fell asleep around 9:30-10 and it is now…” Phil checked his phone, the light blinding me, “…2am.” He finished.
I stood up from the couch and stretched with my arms over my head, forgetting I had broken ribs. The sudden pain made me instantly cry out, quickly putting my hands over my ribs.
“Whats wrong?!” Phil looked at me urgently.
“Nothing.” I gasped, “Pulled muscle” I said through gritted teeth.
“You can’t pull a muscle in your ribs.” Phil explained to me, “I’m taking you to the hospital.”
“What? Phil! No!” I protested as Phil grabbed his phone and wallet and gently pushed me towards the front of the bus.
Phil dialled a number into his phone and requested a taxi to pick us up from our current location.
“Taxi is on it’s way, now grab anything you might need.” I could see that Phil wouldn’t give up, so I begrudgingly got a jacket, my bag and my phone and followed to the front of the bus where he helped me off of the bus.
“So what’s wrong with you?” Phil asked, referring to the pain in my ribs.
“Um, I don’t know.” I replied back to him. Thankfully the taxi arrived and we didn’t have to continue the conversation of what had happened.
We drove in silence to the Las Vegas Hospital, it wasn’t a long drive, just a painful one. With every speed hump and pot hole the taxi hit I winced in pain.
Once we arrived at the hospital, Phil paid the driver and helped me out of the taxi. I caught a look at myself in the automatic doors, I looked pale and sweaty. We arrived at the waiting room where Jared’s word suddenly flashed through my mind;
“You tell anyone about this experience and I’ll finish you for good!”
Suddenly the air became thicker, the walls closed in around me, I struggled to breathe and started to shake. Phil noticing the change in me screamed out for a nurse. Two nurses and a doctor sprinted towards me, one of the nurses seemed to notice that it was only a panic attack so she kneeled before me and told me to take big, deep breathes.
“Come one, sweetie. Breathe with me.” The nurse said calmly, I started taking slower breathes instead of my short, quick ones. After 10 minutes of breathing slowly with my eyes shut, I began to notice the end of the panic attack. The air became lighter, I felt less constricted and my heart rate was back to normal. The nurse handed me a tissue, I looked up at her with a quizzical look only for her to gesture that I had tears flowing down my face.
Once the panic attack was 100% over, the doctor that had been there for the attack turned to Phil and stated;
“I’ll see her now” with a kind smile on his face. The doctor helped me up and took me into an examining room and began to assess me.
After half an hour of him poking and prodding me he straightened up;
“Well, Victoria, it seems like you have broken 4 ribs. So we will get right on to fixing that for you! From the looks of it, it has already started to heal so we will need to do some X-Rays to confirm that and if that is the case; We will need to take you into surgery.”
“What? Surgery? Why?” I asked him frantically.
“We would need to re-break the bones and set them properly into place.” The doctor replied, “Now I have arranged for Doctor Leslie Matthews to see you now. She’s a psychologist.” And with that my doctor walked out of the room and in entered a pretty brunette girl, she looked very plain with glasses and her hair in a bun, but she looked friendly.
“Now, Victoria, I just need you to answer some questions for me.” She began asking me a whole bunch of weird questions about how I’m feeling and if I have been under stress lately and stuff like that. She then assessed my ribs and the bruise on my arm before she walked out of the room.
