The City of Angels.

L fucking A, baby.

"Seat 34A, have a pleasant journey, Miss." The flight attendant said to me as she handed me back my boarding pass and pointed me towards my seat.

I was about to embark on an exciting adventure. I was going to finally take my self and my big time dream of becoming a fashion designer to the bright lights and busy streets of L.A. Los Angeles. The City of Angels. My best friend of 8 years, Tadhg was taking the leap with me. He had just received his degree in sound engineering and decided to take his dream of being a music producer along with him.

"Cheers, Fiona!" Tadhg said as he tilted his small can of beer towards my Jameson with ice. I returned the gesture, smoothing out my outfit with a smile on my face but a bouncing leg. I never was a great for flying.

With nothing to lose but the money we had saved and most definitely, our dignity we cheers-ed to ourselves and finding our dreams together.

We had been inseparable since we met in secondary school where we lived in Ireland. We then went on to do the same college course together. Until we both dropped out after our 1st of 4 years. He decided to head towards music production and I was stuck in an angsty rut of not knowing what to do. So while all my friends went to college and obtained degrees, certificates and all sorts, I worked shitty jobs, lived at home and did clothing alterations on the side for family members and friends to keep my head above water. I had wanted to become a fashion designer all my life. But Ireland is a very small place where dreams are not top priority.

I remember telling my mother I was going to be a big fashion designer the day I was given my first sewing machine. She laughed in my face. And sadly, she wasn't the only one. My friends were more than supportive. They bought every kind of shirt or dress I haphazardly made. Probably out of sympathy. But it was a rush for me.

After coming to terms with the fact that I was never going to become successful in Ireland I decided it was time to become the designer I had always wanted to be. I had remembered Tadhg telling me that he was going to move to LA. I knew that was my opportunity. So with a heavy heart and anxious feet I packed my bags and left for LA. I had been saving every penny I owned in order to start my own fashion line. I decided to put that towards flights and rent and vowed to myself and every single person that had laughed in my face that I was going to change lives through fashion. I was going to make myself proud. I was going to L fucking A, baby.
