Unlikely encounters

From the day Kenzie said that we were a family she had been loving with me. We were planning everything for our baby girl. We planned her name, it was going to be Isabelle. Both me and Kenzie loved the name, so it seemed like a good choice. I had been secretly working on the baby's room as well. I had it planned as a Disney princess theme, but I wanted it to be a surprise for Kenzie and the baby.

"Austin! Can I please see!" Kenzie begged from outside the door.

"Nope! You have to wait 4 more months!" I said, standing on a stool painting the wall.

I was so excited. our daughter was going to be here in four short months. At every ultrasound we went to, I asked for a copy to be made so I could keep one in my wallet so it would be with me always.

"Awwww but Austin! Hey, the doorbell just rang, you go get the door!@ Kenzie said.

"no you! I don't want you to peek.!" I said. I knew how she thought. The moment I would leave to get the door, she would quickly look in the room.

"Fuck! Fine!" She said. I heard her walk away, and I quickly left the room, shutting and locking the door behind me. I saw Kenzie standing at the door, and behind it was Ryan, the baby's father. Kenzie hadn't opened the door yet, but she was standing still, in shock.

"Oh fuck, Mackenzie, go into the living room. I'll handle this." I said.

she just nodded lightly and slowly back away, I opened the door, and I expected him to throw a punch or something, but he just said hello.

"Um, hey, I'm Austin ." I said.

"Yea, I'm actually a fan of of mice and men, so that's how I knew Kenzie was here. I.... I'm not going to try and take her or anything, I swear, I just Need to say goodbye, and I need to warn her about Blake. Please man, just let me see her." He begged. I could see the scar from where the stitches were, and he was slurring his speech, he had obviously just come out of the coma recently.

"Alright, but I'm going to be beside her the whole time." I said sternly.

I sat beside Kenzie, on the couch, and Ryan sat across from us. he told Kenzie that he loved her, but he wouldn't ask for custody of the child because he could'nt have that responsibility. But then he told her about Blake.

"You guys can't let him know where you are because he will kill both of you. No exaggeration, or anything. He will kill you both. You better protect her." He said looking at me.

"I will."

"Well, I should be going, but just both of you, stay safe." He said.

He walked out of our house and Kenzie burst into tears, and wrapped her arms around me.

"I'm scared. Austin, I'm so scared." She cried.
