Like Loving A Lion (SEQUEL to I'm Not That Perfect)

Thirty Five; Ultrasound

"Look who it is!" Dr Hepburn cried when he saw me lying on his table. "So good to see you both. Congratulations again."
Austin was doing the work for the both of us. "Thank you. We're very excited." He said.
"I'm sure you're also very anxious. Let's get started then." The doctor said, turning on the ultrasound machine. "I'd recommend you get an amniocentesis as well."
"When can we do that?" Austin asked. I focused on breathing and tried not to pass out. Never in my life had I ever been so nervous.
"Depends how far along you are now. Generally we do the procedure sometime between the fourteenth and eighteenth week." Dr Hepburn said. "Okay, all ready?"
I forgot to breathe as he put the detector over my stomach and my baby showed up on the screen. Mesmerized, I watched my baby move around. My baby.
"You're about ten weeks." The doctor said. "See, this is about where things went wrong last time."
"Is everything okay now?" Austin asked tensely.
The doctor beamed. "This baby is perfectly healthy."
I breathed out, smiling for the first time. "Talk to me about this amniocentesis, doc."
"The purpose of an amnio is to test for genetic disorders. We'll go in through your abdomen and take about an ounce of the amniotic fluid that surrounds the fetus. Approximately two weeks later we'll know if there's anything wrong with baby that we couldn't see here. You won't need to get another ultrasound because we'll know gender from the test as well." He said.
"That sounds great." I nodded. "So everything is good with my baby?"
The doctor smiled. "Yes! Everything is absolutely perfect."

“I’m starving. I was never this hungry last time.” I laughed wearily as Austin and I walked into In-N-Out. “I don’t really want to start eating meat again though.”
“You need to. Dr Hepburn said it’s good for baby boy.” Austin replied.
“Austin!” I cried. “We don’t know gender.”
“I have a good feeling.” He smiled. “Sit down and I’ll go order.”
Being pregnant was tiring; I’d forgotten how exhausting it was to create another person. It wasn’t late but I was drained.
“Ave?” Austin asked when he returned. “When do you think we should tell everyone?”
“Aren’t we going to Alan’s tonight?” I asked.
“Yeah.”
“Okay, so let’s tell them then.” I shrugged.
His face lit up. "Really?"
"And since I'm the best wife ever, I'll even let you take my picture and put it on all your social networks so your fans know." I smiled.
"You're definitely the best." He agreed. "Do you feel better about having a baby now?"
"When he said that the baby was healthy I felt like a weight lifted off of my shoulders. I feel good now. The anxiety is gone." I said slowly. "I'm even excited."
We finished eating and went to Alan's; he was having a little party.
"Hey guys. You want a drink?" Alan greeted us. "I got wine just for Avery."
I laughed nervously and let Austin do the talking. "Uh, she can't really drink right now." Austin grinned.
Alan would be the one who didn't get it. "Why? Are you on, like, a diet or something?"
I rolled my eyes. "No, idiot. I'm pregnant."
"Wow! Congratulations!" He grinned. "I ship it."
"A baby?" Phil asked. "Cool! How far along are you?"
"Two and a half months." I smiled.
"Awesome. Can't wait to meet it." Tino said.
"Him." Austin corrected.
"You know it's a boy already?" Aaron asked.
"No!" I rolled my eyes. "Austin just wants a boy. He'd dead set on it."
"This is so great. Congrats." Aaron said.
