Meet My Dedication

Would You Still Be There

I stayed in the shower longer than I originally intended, but hopefully no one minded. It wasn’t too late in the day, it was barely lunchtime actually, and just the thought of food made me hungry. Maybe it was pregnancy talking, but either way, food was in my near future.
I got dressed and put my hair in a fishtail braid, being too lazy to want to dry and straighten it. I tiptoed back into Austin and my room, setting my clothes down and putting them in the dirty laundry pile we had managed to build in less than a day.
I think Austin’s telepathic, because when I came out into the hallway I smelled salmon and other delicious goodies coming from the kitchen.
It’s like he knew me.
I watched him over the stove, making food, and went over to him, wrapping my arms around his waist. “It smells yummy, is it for me?”
I felt him laugh to himself, “of course it is, you’re the only person on the planet who eats this!”
I saw mashed potatoes, broccoli, and the fish being cooked and my mouth was practically watering. “I love you, so so soooooo much,” I jumped up and kissed him on the cheek.
“You’re in a good mood,” he finished and started getting out a plate for me.
“Of course I am; how could I not be?” My hands automatically went to my belly and I smiled. “I have everything I’ve ever wanted.”
“Oh? What what’s that, huh?” he said as he put the plate full of deliciousness in front of me.
“I have you, and we’re gonna get married soon, and we have the baby. I have my class, and you have your music, and our friends. Life is perfect.” I dug into my food, and he started laughing.
“You are too perfect, and so right.” He kissed my forehead and went out by the grill with his dad.
“Where are you going?” I didn’t want to be alone, I wanted him to sit with me.
“I’m getting my own food, I’ll be right back.” He came back in with two steaks, assuming one was for each of them. “Because I’m a man, and men eat steak.”
I rolled my eyes and ate my food, as Austin and his father sat down with me, with their plates. It was nice, the three of us. I longed for days like this with my family, and I wished that more of them had come in the past.

“So how are far along are you, then?” I was interrupted from my thoughts again, and realized I had completely zoned out. Again. God, I was so rude.
“Oh, uh, six and a half weeks now,” I smiled, trying to make it seem like I was paying attention the whole time.
“That’s great. When do you get to know if it’s a boy or girl?” We were all sitting in the family room, watching The Walking Dead season finale.
“Most likely the next checkup, so in a week or two,” Austin spoke for me, I was still concentrating on happy thoughts. “I can’t wait and see our munchkin.” He grabbed my hand and I kissed it before placing it on my belly. He and I were cuddling on the couch, while his father took the arm chair.
“Do you want a boy or girl?” I didn’t know if he was asking me, or Austin. I looked up at him and he just kissed my forehead.
“I want a little girl,” I said and traced little circles on top of Austin’s hand.
“I’m kind of hoping for a boy, so we can do man stuff, like scope out hot chicks and play football.” We all ended up laughing, and I smacked him playfully.
“You are not using my child to scope out chicks.” I giggled, shaking my head.
“Your child? Hey, little lady, I helped make him.” He ruffled my hair. Robert was just sitting back and enjoying our little banter.
“You two are too cute, it’s almost disgusting,” Robert’s hearty chuckle echoed through the room.
I yawned and was falling asleep in Austin’s lap pretty quickly, I’m pretty sure I missed the ending of the show.

Austin’s POV

“She’s out like a light, that one.” My dad chuckled and helped me get off the couch without waking Mikey.
“Yeah, she does that. I can’t watch TV with her anymore, because she falls asleep before the show ends. She’s gonna be pissed that she missed the ending.” I laughed and picked her up, bridal style.
“Just don’t spoil it for her, and you’ll be fine.” He put his hand on my shoulder and I could tell he was really happy for me.
“We’ll see you in the morning, dad. Good night,” he hugged me and I made my way into my old room, which was now our room. All of my posters were still up and framed was a photo of our first record from the studio. My dresser had photo strips of Alan and I and attached to my mirror was a photo of me and my mom.
I missed her like crazy, and I knew she was proud of me, and happy that I was getting to start a family of my own. I just wished she was here to witness it in person, rather than in spirit.
I set Mikey down and got her undressed and into one of my t-shirts. I took off my pants and went to tuck her into bed, cuddling next to her. She moved around a bit, and snored softly, it was adorable. I nestled her into me closer and kissed her head.
“I love you, so much.” I said into her ear, and for a second I thought I saw a smile curl onto her lips.
I fell asleep almost instantly.

I woke up alone, and I never thought that was a good sign. Usually, or at least as of lately, Mikey was still passed out when I woke up. I noticed a few things about her, now that she was pregnant;
She slept almost all the time.
She ate almost all the time, and sometimes it was the craziest thing.
Her mood swings were hilarious. She’d be mad at me for wanting to go out and show her around, then get really sad about how she’s being bossy and mean. It was funny, most of the time, and I couldn’t help but laugh, which also put her in a mood.
I went out into the kitchen, only to find her fast asleep next to a half eaten bowl of Frosted Flakes.
Yup, I was destined to marry this woman.
“C’mon sweetie,” I cooed as I got her off of the bar stool and into my arms. “You’re up too early.”
“No I’m not,” she mumbled, half asleep. “I’m not tired,” she nestled herself into my arms.
“Baby, you were passed out in your cereal.”
“Was not,” she said before she fell asleep again.
I put her on the couch, and cleaned up her breakfast. Dad was at work, and I had shown her pretty much everything there was in town. She was still getting sick, and I wanted to do something nice for her when we got home, I just wasn’t sure what. I was kind of ready to be home, too.
