The Fallout

Sunday someone’s never coming back here to this place anymore.

WARNING: Get yourself some tissues, I needed them myself.

Austin's P.O.V

CRASH

That was the first thing I heard as I woke up, it was too loud to have been a dream, too real to be fake. I gently nudged Oli who was curled up on my chest, still fast asleep. He groaned, but I was persistent with him,

“Oli, wake up, someone’s in the ho-“

“FEDERAL GOVERNMENT! LET ME SEE YOUR HANDS!” a loud voice yelled throughout the house. This roused Oli from his spot as he flew off the mattress in time with me. He stopped before the door with a scared look on his face, honestly, I was scared too.

BANG

“Oli, behind me!” I yelled as the all too familiar sound of gun shots resounded through the halls, he nodded and stood behind me as we exited the room.

“No!” Tom's screamed which only caused Oli to push past me, I tried to grab his hand but he was too quick. I jogged after him and entered the living room, and I was shocked at what I saw.

“Tino!” I screamed as I made my way over to my best friends side, Tom was crouched down next to him, hand on his forehead that was spewing blood in all directions.

“I can’t do it…he’s already…” Tom cried out as his eyes shone that familiar iridescent color, I grabbed Tino’s hand and desperately searched for a pulse…there wasn’t one. I choked back a sob as I clutched desperately to the body of my best friend.

“You son of a bitch!” Oli roared, as he stared down the large crowd of me who brandished their weapons level with our heads.

“I can take care of this,” Matt growled as he stepped forward, much to the dismay of the men.

“Stay where we can see you. Hands up if you wish to live, unlike your friend.” One man barked as his comrades nodded their heads. Oli giggled, which was quite odd given our current situation, he held his head towards the ground and laughed manically. The men exchanged confused glances with him,

“Hardly true,” he murmured before lifting a single finger in the air, the men’s guns dissolved instantly. I gasped in awe, and glanced at Tom who was still staring down at Tino’s face; I felt bile rise in my throat.

“Not so tough without your guns, are you?” he chuckled as he twirled his finger in the air, the atmosphere got unbearably thick. Almost like oxygen no longer existed, Tom, Matt and I didn’t seem to be having too much trouble breathing, but the other men collapsed to the ground. Suddenly, the objects in the room began to free float, as if there was nothing left to hold them in place. Tom and I held Tino’s body to the floor and watched in shock; Matt carefully backed over to us and kneeled down.

“Should we just let him?” Tom whispered as he tightened his grip on Tino’s arms, it was becoming increasingly hard to fight back the tears that already stung at my eyes.

“Yes, we need to see what he’s capable of.” I muttered as I returned my eyes back to Oli. The men’s bodies lifted into the air as they continued to choke on seemingly nothing,

“Funny how it works, isn’t it? Your body can’t handle this, it simple…you won’t survive. You see…in here, there is no oxygen, and there is no gravity. How does it feel to be drowning in the atmosphere?” he giggled as he lowered his hand, the men fell to the ground along with the heavier of the objects. The soldiers began twitching and gasping as the air returned to their lungs.

“Oli…” I warned, no…he wasn’t…playing with them…was he?

“Hurts doesn’t it?” he muttered as he crouched down beside someone, they screamed and backed away as much as they could.

“Now, I have a request,” he purred as he rose back to his feet.

“Call it off, call the hunt for us off. Now. Or I will kill you without a notice this time.” He propped himself up on the arm of the sofa that was now in the middle of the room.

“That’s actually a fair idea,” Matt explained as he watched his best friend warily, I nodded and wiped the tears away from my eyes.

“It really is, it won’t work forever…but it will buy us some time.” I mumbled,

“Director, the suspects…are dead.” One man spoke carefully into his microphone, the response was immediate.

“Good work team, come on back to base, with their bodies if possible.” The man’s voice returned through the speaker, Oli nodded his head.

“Good,” he stated as he stood back up to face us, for the first time, I got a good look at his eyes. Violet, it was never a color I would have thought of, but that’s exactly what they were. His eyes were a bit wider than usual, and a devious smirk crept its way to his lips. He laughed before turning his head over his shoulder to watch the men,

“By the way, I lied. Game over.” He seethed, the few objects that still wondered around the room aimlessly shattered and broke, before flying at high velocity speeds; successfully stabbing the men. It was quiet, no one screamed as their deaths were almost instant, Oli frowned.

“Tino…that’s for you.” He whispered as he fell forward, I rushed up just in time to catch him.

“Oli!” I called out as his frail body made contact with my arms. By this point, I was sobbing. I had just lost my best friend, the house we had build back up was no longer safe, and as of now, everything was falling apart. Maybe things would be easier if I was dead, if we were dead…no, I can't think that way.

“I got him, Tom…pack our bags up…Austin stay near Tino…we can bury him before we leave.” Matt murmured as he snatched Oli from my arms and cradled him to his chest. Tom nodded as he gently lowered Tino’s head to the ground, he looked as if he was ready to burst in hysterics. I slid my way back over to Tino, and lifted his head, which was drenched in blood and blown apart by the bullet.

“Tino…you remember the time we first met? When our dads introduced us?” I cried out as I stroked his arms which were now going cold, “You called me stupid! So I punched you in the nose…you definitely beat my ass that day.” I laughed to myself as I let the tears fall on his face. “But on the first day of kindergarten…someone hit me and you stood up for me…I remember it like it was yesterday.” I bit my lip as a sob racketed through me, “I never forgot that Tino, I never will…I miss you…I'm so sorry I didn’t stop them in time…I'm sorry!” I wept as I brought his body closer.

“This isn’t fair! Tino! You can't be dead! Please wake up! Tom, wake him up please!” I knew I was losing it at this point, but it was so hard to stop the words before they fell out of my lips.

“Oh, Austin…” I felt two arms circle mine, two heavily tattooed arms. Oli nestled his head into the crook of my neck and whispered sweet nothings in my ear as I continued to mourn the loss of my best friend.

“I guess this is good enough…” Oli sighed as we halted our advance in the woods, I sniffled as I gently laid Tino’s body on the ground.

“I can do this,” I muttered as I stepped a few feet away from them, I sunk my foot into the earth and shut my eyes. The ground beneath my feet shifted as I took a step back, a loud collapsing sound soon followed. I opened my eyes and examined the earth, a decent size hole stood before me, the dirt around the edges laid in piles.

“That’s one way to do it…” Matt whispered as he lifted Tino off the ground, Tom rushed towards the hole with blankets and a mattress. He laid the objects in as Matt laid Tino on the makeshift grave, I sniffled.

“Austin…do you want to say a few words? Or should we all?” Oli placed a hand on my shoulder before laying his head on the small of my back, I relaxed into his touch. He always brought comfort to me, no matter what the circumstances, he was like a Venus fly trap amongst the chaos. Beautiful to look at, yet lethal when anything threatened him or his surroundings, it was something I took relief in, as odd as that sounds. Yet, weren’t we all the same?

“We all should, Matt…will you start?” I clasped my hands together as I felt Oli snake his arms around mine, he peaked his head around my shoulder to watch the drummer speak on behalf of the other.

“Yeah, I will.” He stated as he stood facing Tino, I heard him inhale sharply, before crying out a bit. Tom came to his aid, pulling the older man’s face into his shoulder as he collectively sobbed his eyes out. By this point, we were all in hysterics, all of us desperately clinging to each other as we huddled before the remains of one of our loved one.

“Tino…” Matt breathed out as he pulled Oli and Tom closer, the eldest Sykes brother dragged me towards him. “I can't really begin to describe how much of a help you were…you were such a great person…you didn’t deserve this fate. I promise, we will get revenge for this…we will fix this world, and you will never be forgotten.” The drummer seemed satisfied with words so he ducked his head down a bit and let tears fall to turned up dirt.

“I’ll go…” Tom offered as he wiped a tear from his friends eye, “Tino, you did so much for us…and it…breaks my heart that I can't come and bother you to play cards with me anymore…” he choked up as his breathing became jagged and unstable, he shook his head back and forth as Matt tried to calm him. Oli gripped my arm tighter at the sight, I numbly kissed his forehead in an attempt to comfort him.

“I love you Tino, rest easy…this isn’t the end. Leave it to us, we will fix this.” he finished his speech before sinking into the brunettes arms and weeping harshly, I shot them a sad smile.

“Tino,” Oli began as he stood in front of me, I wrapped my arms around him and laid my head atop of his. “I didn’t know you long…but long enough to realize that you…you were just too good for this world. I've never met someone so eager to help, so eager to achieve greater things…and so loyal, when Austin and all of us needed you most. I don’t believe in heaven…and surely, this is hell…so I know wherever you are…its better than here. I'm sorry I didn’t help you in time…I will never forget what you have taught me.” He commented with a bittersweet grin, at long last; it was my turn.

“Tino…you were, and always will be my best friend. No matter what the circumstances are, I regret not telling you how much you meant to me…but you know how I felt…how I feel. You are my brother in every sense of the word, and you always will be. I promise that this will be the turning point for me, I will focus on being a better person and making an impact on the world…just like you would have wanted. I love you Tino, and I hope you smile when you look down on me. Tell mom I said hi, and our dads…if you see them up their too.” I pointed at the sky as tears fell from my eyes, “Mom, you better take good care of him!” I shouted at the clouds, but nothing sounded back; not like I expected it too.
