When You Fall Asleep Tonight (Sequel To My Understandings)

Still Not Quite Enough

*Slight triggering warning*

“Oh my god! Look at that thing! It’s huge, and it’s growing inside of you! For seven months! Oh my god! You’re so skinny! That thing is bigger than you! What did the doctor say?! How did you get pregnant? I thought you were on birth control! Vic! How you doing! You’re so tall! My God!!” Taylor yelled as soon as she saw us. We walked through side-stage through a backdoor entrance and was saw by the band as soon as we walked in. Vic drifted off to talk to the band.
“Great to see you too Tay.” I say sarcastically with a smile. “Doctor said not too much excitement or stress or it could start early birth.” She nodded and went on rambling. She still looks the same form when I last saw her, almost a year ago. Her hair is slightly longer with more wisps in them from what I last saw, but other than that, she’s still the energetic friend I met at Warped 12’.
“Ellie!” she squealed and tackled me in a hug. “You still look amazing! Thank you for doing this, you don’t know how much this means to me.” I gave her a smile as I sat on a nearby crate. WATIC are playing at the San Diego coliseum that’s across town from the one AA played at.
“It’s no problem. You’re my girl T.” She smiled at me before handing me a microphone. Vic grabbed his guitar and two stools before setting up onstage, getting the crowd hyped up.
“May I say, you dressed nice today.” I was wearing a tannish button up shirt and some jeans. I had to get the shirt in XX-Large and the shoes were UGGS, considering heels are deadly for me. “Now go out there and spike me up a crowd.” I smiled at her before walking on stage. No matter how many times I walk on, it will never occur to me that this is my job. I sat on a stool while Vic took one across for me and quietly tuned the guitar up. I smiled before letting my heart out to the crowd with a song called February Air.

-Austin-
“No.” Shayley said. “I won’t allow it. What’s her religion?”
“Trick question. She didn’t believe in anything until Lynzie converted hera couple months ago into a Catholic.” I say with a smile smug on my face. Shayley eyed me again.
“Current obsession?”
“Meeting Tyler Carter.”
“Favorite song?”
“Doesn’t have one. Most liked, Dylan’s Song.”
“Favorite band?”
“Woe, Is Me.”
“Favorite tattoo?”
“The infinity sign on her middle finger.”
“Why does she believe in forgiveness so much, even when people don’t deserve it?”
“Because, she gets it from her dad as a nice person and thinks that everyone deserves second chances, like me.” What is he, her father? He gave me a sly smile.
“You truly are ready. But it’s still not quite enough.” He said. “You need to not talk to me, but to the love of her life, Daniel.” He said, referring to, well, Daniel.
I don’t think Ellie has been to his grave, since nine years ago. Although I didn’t know him as well, I only had a class with him in high school, he meant a lot to many people, but more to Ellie.
“Er, I don’t think I should.” I say while kicking the gravel from his driveway.
“Why is that?” he asked, leaning against the hood on my car.
“Because, it doesn’t seem right. When he died, lots of people, even people who didn’t know him came to his memorial service and I didn’t. Shayley, I made that kid’s life a living hell because he was dating Ellie.” I say with a few tears falling. “Every day he would come to school only to hear my bullshit. And, that night when he died, the first thing that came to my mind is, that’s what he deserves.” I sighed deeply. I can still hear his voice as clear as day in my head.

“Hey geek, get over here!” He was holding hands with the girl I wanted to be with, me. Her beautiful long dark black hair, the small freckles under her eyes. When she and her brother argue, her eyes would darken. Her eyes, were beautiful ice crystals implanted in her brain.
“Leave him alone.” She yelled. One of my friends walked up to them and shoved her, making their hands rip apart. She fell t the ground and the boy spoke up.
“Leave her alone!” he yelled, his blonde hair flying. Dave shoved him backwards into a locker. He grabbed the boy and threw him to the floor, whispering something in his ear before helping him up. As soon as the boy was up, my friend Nick pushed him right back down. You could hear the sound of his head hitting the floor.

“That day, he got extremely pissed at me and stole my book-bag. That pissed me off even more. One day, I cornered him in the bathroom and was going to fight. I gave him a black eye. But, when he died, oh did karma bite me in the ass. I started getting bullied, because of the music I listened to and this guy slammed my head on the toilet three times.” I chuckle. Remembering the pain I went through.
“Austin, did she know it was you?” he asked. I shook my head.
“She didn’t acknowledge my existence until after he died and we would talk here and there. She really cared when my mom died.” I said while sigh. “I still think she doesn’t know. But I remember. I hate what I did to him. I never got to apologize because he died.” Shayley looked at me.
“The best thing you can do is tell Daniel that. And Ellie.” he said. “You’re going to start a family and trust me, that baby will ask about high school. What are you going to say, ‘I made your mom’s love of her life a miserable life and he died and I didn’t care’? Austin, you’re 25 years old. It’s time to man up, it’s not high school anymore. You got the girl, now tell her the truth.”

Notes

Poor Austin.
