Forgive Me- Part 1

Expect the Unexpected

The second Amelia started talking to Isaac I knew there would be trouble. You could tell just by the way she held her self, the way the confidence leaked out of her voice when she spoke to him. He is definitely not good for her, she needs someone she can shine around, when she even speaks about Isaac she becomes an entirely different person, self conscious, quiet, sad even. I don't want to see her like that. She deserves to be able to be confident. What am I saying? Yea we've talked heaps and I feel like I really know her, but it hasn't even been a full day. It's none of my business.

The conversation between Amelia and Isaac was getting heated. You could tell she was getting angry and upset, and that just made me angry. How dare he make her feel like that?!

'What?! Why the fuck would you think that? You know I would never do anything like that! Not after Michael!' She yelled into the phone. Who's Michael? What does Isaac think she did?

'Fuck you Isaac, you're being a dick head' she hung up her phone and swung around in her chair and ordered a shot of vodka. What the hell did he say to her?

"Amelia? Are you okay?" I asked her, I know it's a stupid question as it's obvious that she isn't.

"Fabulous!" She smiled at me but it wasn't her normal smile. It wasn't happy, it was forced, fake... She downed her shot and ordered two more and slid one to me. "Let's have fun shall we?"

I took the shot and watched her. What ever Isaac said to her deeply affected her and I could see that this was her chosen method of dealing.

Over the course of the night, she downed shot after shot, drink after drink. It got to the point where I had enough.

"Amelia? Come on, it's late we should head back"

"But Jaime! I'm having fun!" She was a cute drunk, she was very sweet, and unlike a lot of people I have seen, she still had a sense of composure. I could tell she was off her face, but it seemed as though she still had her reasoning abilities. Hopefully that would make getting her home a bit easier.

"I know, me too, but I promised that I would keep all the creepy guys away, but because of how late it is I won't be able to keep them all away so I have to get you home to keep you safe" not true, but maybe she'll buy it. She looked at me for a long while before nodding.

"Just so you don't break your promise" I smiled at her and we walked to the door. She stumbled a bit as we walked down the street towards her apartment so I laced her arm through mine to keep her balanced.

"Thank you for keeping me safe Jaime. You didn't have to do that"

"Yes I did, I promised"

"Yea but you didn't have to promise, so thank you, you're absolutely, spectacularly amazing" she grinned up at me. Yep. She's smashed.

"Thanks Amelia, you're amazing too" we walked down the road and out of no where she pulled her arm out of mine, skipped ahead and started dancing, and twirling down the street.

"Amelia? What are you doing?" I sped up to catch up with her.

"I have so much energy, I need to get to of it!" She giggled as she continued to spin and twirl down the street.

"Yea but you're drunk, and you're probably going to fall over"

"Two points, one, I'm not drunk, I hate getting drunk so I can't be, two, I have brilliant balance and coordination so I'll be fine" as she said it she tripped and ended up on her back on the side walk in a fit of giggles.

"Not drunk hey?"

"Okay so maybe just a little" I reached down and helped her up, once again lacing her arm through mine.

"Now you need to walk with me, can't risk you falling again"

"Fine! You're no fun" she said as he smiled up at me.

We reached her apartment fairly quickly, but had to spend about five minutes outside her door as she fumbled through her bag looking for her keys. But when we finically got inside she ran into her room and jumped onto her bed. Before moaning.

"What wrong? Feel sick?" I asked quickly moving to her side.

"No, I just realised I'm dirty from falling over and I probably smell of alcohol."

"Correct on both counts"

"I need to shower" she jumped up and grabbed a towel, her pyjamas and began walking towards the shower.

"Amelia! That's probably not a.good idea, you've had a lot to drink an can barely stand up, why don't you wait until morning?"

"Because my bed will smell funny" she pulled a grumpy face and I sighed.

"I know! You can come with me!" She looked very proud of her idea but I was just shocked.

"You have a boyfriend and we just met, that's probably not the greatest idea"

"Not in the shower silly! I'll hope in the shower and then you can sit in the bathroom to make sure I don't die, I have an opaque curtain so it will be fine!"

"Opaque? Wow, surprisingly good vocabulary for a drunk person"pp

"I'm an art student, words like that just stick" she grinned before grabbing my hand and dragging me to the bathroom, pausing just outside the door. "I'll call you when I'm in the shower"

She waltzed into the bathroom, and after a minute called me in. I was hesitant at first, but I really didn't trust her to be okay in her current state, so I went in and sat on the floor in front of her sink.

"Are you there?" She asked, her voice coming from lower than I expected.

"Yea, are you on the floor?"

"Yepp, I'm tired and standing is effort."

"Okay then... Don't fall asleep though!"

"Silly Jaime, I won't do that" I shake my head before leaning it back against the sink and look at the wall.

"Jaime?"

"Yea?"

"Why did you come to Australia?" Shit. A reason, not a lie, I don't want to lie to her but I can't tell her the truth either ...

"Oh, there are some people here I wanted to see, some I haven't seen in a while" not a complete lie, I want to see the fans, and I have met some of them before at previous concerts.

"Fair enough" she yawned.

"Are you actually showering in there or are you just sitting there?" I said changing the subject.

"I'm cleaning my hair"

"Good, be quick, I don't want to sit here all night okay?" I said jokingly

"Yea yea, don't get your panties in a twist" Amelia really is the strangest drunk. she was silent for a minute and I began to worry.

"Amelia?" No response "Amelia!" Nothing. I jump up and pull open the curtain to see her curled up on the floor under the stream of water. I quickly pull her out of the shower and onto the bathroom floor.

"Jaime! I'm sleeping!" She grumbled, relief flooded through me when I realised she was okay.

"Yes, in the shower!"

"It was warm" she began to shiver and i blushed as I realised that I was holding her naked on my lap. But my embarrassment soon turned to shock and sadness when I saw her legs. The top of her thighs thickly covered in scars, not even an inch of unharmed skin. Jagged red cuts overlapping old scars. They never past a certain point, probably so she could hide them. Why would she do this? She seemed like such a cheerful person...

I pulled down her towel and wrapped it around her. "Amelia, I'm going to need your help, I can't dress you on my own okay?"

She nodded and sat up, pulling the towel tightly around her. "I can do it, can you go wait outside?" I nodded and stepped out the door.

This is taking too long... I knocked on the door and there wasn't a response. Again? I laugh and opened the door to see her curled up on her towel almost complete dressed, just missing her top. I gently shook her shoulder.

"Amelia?" She blinked her eyes open "hey, come on, we need to get your shirt on" she pulled the shirt over her head.

"Jaime!" She whined

"Yes?"

"Can you fix my face?"

"What do you mean?"

"My mascara is probably halfway down my face, can you get it off?" She was right, her mascara had smudged a lot, but it wasn't as bad as I suspect she thought it was. I grabbed a makeup wipe of the bench and she closed her eyes so I could gently wipe away the smudges.

"There, all better" I said, she opened her eyes and smiled up at me.

"Thank you Jaime, you're absolutely, spectacularly amazing!"

"Yea you said that" I laughed. I helped her up and took her to her bed and helped her under the covers. As I went to leave I felt her hand wrap around my shirt.

"Please don't leave me" she whispered, not looking up. I smiled and got into the bed.

"I'm right here" she snugged up against my side, her hands never releasing their grip on my damp shirt and she fell asleep very quickly.

There is something about this girl. She's different, and the thought that she could do that to herself breaks my heart. What should I do? She probably won't remember this, so do I confront her? No, it's not my business. We've talked so much, I'm sure she'll open up to me about it when she's ready. I don't want to leave her. I know that tomorrow will probably be my last day with her and the thought scares me. I've grown strangely attached to this odd, shy, Australian girl.
