One Moment

The Silence Is Deafening

*Austin p.o.v*

The voices of the TV were being drowned out in my ears by my thoughts as I bit at my nail. So much was on my mind, mostly just the past day, but I couldn't help myself from over analyzing everything, always just ending up in a puddle of guilt.

With a sigh I let my hand that I was bitting at fall into my lap, looking around for something to distract me. Alan was watching the show on the TV intently, shoveling cereal into his mouth. I don't know when he started liking the show so much, but I think it was Hazel that got him hooked on it. Maybe she'd come out to watch?

With this thought I pushed myself off of the couch, stopping in the kitchen to whip her up some breakfast before heading toward the bunk area, hoping. The curtain was still pushed back, so I could see her easily when I came over. She was still in the same position, hadn't even moved a muscle. I don't even know if she'd slept.. She hasn't left the bed since she's got here. She hadn't said a word to anyone, just kept staring at the wall. It broke my heart.

Coming over, I set down the little tray that had food on the open space of the bed. "I brought you some breakfast, babe," I tried, hoping she'd at least turn around and look at me. Or give me one of her snarky comments. But of course, nothing. Maybe she just didn't want to eat here? "I think there's a re-run of The Walking Dead on TV. I don't know why a zombie show is on early morning TV, but Alan doesn't seem to mind," I gave a chuckle, but got nothing, making me sigh sadly. Maybe she doesn't want to eat with me right here? "I'll leave this here, Haze, come out when you feel like it, kay?"

I retreated back to the other room and plopped on my same spot back on the couch, going back to bitting at my thumb. Hazel just needs time. She's stronger than anyone I've ever met and has gotten through a ton already, so I know she can do this. I'll give her a little while, but if she thinks she's going to lay there for the rest of her life with out getting any help, then she's wrong. I'll do anything I can.

"We got set today?" Tino asked from the kitchen as he leaned against the counter, shoving a waffle in his mouth.

"Mhm, at noon I think," Alan responded with a mouth full.

"Do you think Hazel will be okay alone for then?" I immediately voice my concern, twiddling with my thumbs. "I just don't want to leave her by herself.."

"I'm sure she'll be fine," Alan looked over to me. "But you could always ask someone to come hang out with her, or if Sam and them have stopped being dicks.."

"I don't know if she'll want to see them right now," I started, thinking. "But I can't ask because she won't fucking talk to me."

"She's still laying there?" Tino asked curiously and I nodded, "yeah, hasn't moved, can't even get her to look at me and I don't want to force her..."

"What should we do?" Alan sighed.

"I'll try to talk to her again, see if she wants to go back to her bus or... I don't know," I shook my head.

"And what if she still doesn't respond?"

"Then we'll call Sam or someone," I shrugged, getting up again. I saw Alan nod and sink back into the couch before I went back to the bunk, expecting to see at least some of the food gone, but only saw that it wasn't touched at all.

"Haze, baby, you've got to eat," I spoke quietly to not startle her. "I know you may not be hungry, but you haven't ate since yesterday morning, you need something," I tried to reason, not getting anywhere. With a huff my head bowed down. "We've got set in a little bit... I didn't think you'd really want to go back to your bus.. Do you want someone to come hangout with?"

Nothing.

"Hazel, please talk to me," I reached over and brushed some of her hair away from her face. It got her to blink a little rapidly, that's something, right? "I'm right here, Hazel. I'm right here for anything you need, so just.. talk to me. You can't keep it all inside," I moved my hand to rub over her arm comfortingly, but I was just greeted with silence again, except that she curled onto her side a little bit further. "Okay," I nodded. "I'll give you some time, but you can know for a fact that I'm not going to stop annoying you. And if you don't eat.." I trailed off with a sigh. "I'll be in the shower if you need me, just please.. please eat something. Do it for our little Jelly Bean, okay? She needs to eat, too." Her body had a little reaction to the mention of our baby, I didn't mean to make her feel guilty, but if it got her to eat..

****

I rubbed the towel over my head fast back and forth to dry my wet hair as I walked out to the kitchen for a drink after checking on Hazel who still was curled up in the bunk. I tensed when I saw Sam standing by the doorway, but also felt kind of relieved. He knew Hazel the best.

"How is she?" He asked, hands in his pockets.

I grabbed a Monster can from our small fridge, slamming it closed after. "She hasn't come out of bed. Won't eat, won't talk to us.. She's pretty fuckin' shaken up."

Sam nodded, looking down sadly at his feet. "The same thing happened a few years ago after the incident with Mark.. She just shut down."

"But she got better.."

"It took a bit, but her brother was coming back to see her and being the hard ass he is, he literally threw her over his shoulder and fought her out of bed," he added, remembering.

"Is that what I'm supposed to do? Just rip her out of bed?" It didn't seem like the best option to me, but I'd try anything.

"No." Sam's response was so quick it had me taken aback. "It did not end well. She went crazy, then shut down even worse. But we wouldn't let her go back into bed so she just started to drown herself in alcohol.." He shook his head. "She can't be ripped out of it, she just needs someone to be there and help her ride it out. To give her some encouragement."

I nodded, that's all I've been doing. And I can do it more. "I don't even know what happened yesterday.. What if it was bad? What if she can't let go of this?"

Sam shook his head, beat. "I don't know.. And I guess what happened at the bus yesterday didn't help much either," he gave a sad chuckle. "How much do you think she heard?"

"She heard enough to not want to be there," I shrugged.

"God dammit, Kush was just being a drunk idiot! So was I, but I'd never say anything like that about Hazel," he huffed, running a hand through his hair. "But what Kush said yesterday..." He shook his head. "I can't think of anyone who would be better, or who she'd want more, to help her out than you and the guys here... She loves you thats why she's in your bed right now, not our bus."

I nodded as I sipped on my monster. "I appreciate it."

"What time are you leaving for your set?" He changed the subject after a little bit of silence.

I glanced over at the clock on the microwave, "like 20 minutes."

He nodded. "I'll stay here so she's not alone."

"Thanks, man," I got up from the leaning position I was in, having to go get dressed. I'm really looking forward to my set today, knowing it will help me clear my head.

Notes

okay, updating again because I know exactly where I'm going and I'm excited to get there so I can start the sequel! (yes, there will be one!)

More Austin point of view! I'll probably do another chapter in his pov just to show whats going on better, but we'll be digging inside Hazel's mind soon!
How do you feel about Hazel who won't get out of bed? Doesn't feel like eating? Poor thing
What do you think will happen?

Let me know what you think!<3
