Those In Glass Houses

Carry On

Austin’s POV

Three days passed by in a flash. Marie always stayed on the couch, watching movies and shows. We had planned the tour dates and fixed last minute things in time during the day and spend the night watching funny movies. Marie still wasn’t used to being with us, but she did smile and laugh a bit more. One thing I did notice is that she wouldn’t look at me. She would look at the rest fine but with me, she would avoid eye contact. I didn’t really pay much attention to it since I would only jump to conclusions.

Right now, we were sitting in the small and empty court room. Jared, our manager, knew a great female lawyer and she had agreed to go over and work with us for free. She sat next to Marie, assuring her that the evidence was all they needed to win the case. The side door opened and Josh stepped through with a cop holding his arms and sitting him at a table with his lawyer. He wore an orange jumpsuit and his hands were handcuffed in front of him.
The judge stepped out from the other door and called the room to order.

“Okay, Miss Hughes, you want to press charges on your boyfriend for physical and mental abuse is that correct.”

“Yes.” Marie spoke out loud. The judge asked the lawyers to state their evidence and Marie’s just stepped up and gave her the manila folder the doctor had given us.

“Mr. Andrews, did you ever kick Miss Hughes?” The judge asked.

“No ma’am.” Josh answered. That little fucking liar.

“Did you ever rape, or beat Miss Hughes?”

“Again, no ma’am.” The judge nodded, looking through the papers and stood up.

“15 years in federal prison.” The judge pounded the gavel and Josh’s lawyer spoke up.

“Your honor, what about my client’s side?” He asked. The judge gave him the folder and the lawyer saw the evidence.

“Your client does not deserve to be heard. We have enough evidence to show that Mr. Andrews did in fact abuse Miss Hughes.” The lawyer gave her back the folder and returned back to his side. Marie let out a sigh of relief and stood up, shaking her lawyers hand and hugging Aaron tightly.

“Thank you.” I saw her whisper to him. She smiled at all of us and when she looked at me, she looked away right away.

“Tour life here we come!” Alan cheered as we left the court room.

3rd person POV

Annemarie felt that whenever she would look at Austin, her heart would just speed up faster and get a strange feeling in the bottom of her stomach. It wasn’t a bad feeling, just one she wasn’t used to. The group walked out of the court room, going to the house and ordering Chinese. They sat around the living room, watching Insidious and eating. Alan let out a small scream, hiding his face behind Austin’s arm. Austin chuckled, assuring him that it was just a movie.

Annemarie couldn’t help but wonder if they were dating. They spent most of their time together and they even sat next to each other all the time. She decided to ask Phil or Aaron later. They finished eating, throwing the garbage out and going back to the living room. Alan and Phil had stepped out to get a few things for the tour while Aaron and Tino made up some excuse to leave. Austin and Annemarie stayed in the living room, being quiet and watching the new movie that came up.

“Marie, can I ask you something?” Austin asked, clearing his throat. Marie turned to look at him and nodded slightly. He didn’t speak, just watched her. Marie saw him move a bit closer and he wiped his hands on his jeans. “Do you really want to go with us? I mean, we are more than happy that you are, don’t get me wrong! But I’m only asking so you can decide for yourself.” Marie watched as he rambled and let out a small giggle, making him stop talking.

“Um, I really would like to go with you guys. I’ve always want to see Aaron up on stage living his dream.” She blushed, looking back at the TV. Austin chuckled and nodded. They stayed quiet a bit longer until she finally spoke up.

“Are you and Alan dating?” Tino, who had been hiding around the corner with Aaron listening, choked on his drink from the sudden question and Aaron glared at him, making him shut up. Austin looked to the hallway confused but looked back to Marie. He signaled to her that they were listening and he sighed.

“No, Alan is just my best friend. We only act like that because we’re that good friends.” Marie nodded; feeling embarrassed about asking such a stupid question. They stayed quiet a bit longer until Aaron and Tino came back and after a while, Phil and Alan came back as well.
“Well, the bus is going to be here in a few days tops.” Alan said, sitting between Marie and Austin. The group talked about the tour except for Marie, who just watched the TV. She curled up with her blanket around her and rested her head on her arm, slowly falling asleep.
