Those In Glass Houses

The Downfall Of Us All

Annemarie’s POV

I stayed with the group, talking about non-sense and just relaxing. I had told them everything that happened and they promised to keep their mouths quiet if Austin ever asked. I stayed up in the room I rented, watching a random crime show when someone knocked on the door. I looked over at the door, suddenly wondering if anyone told him about me here. I stayed quiet, hoping it wasn’t him when they knocked again.

“Anne? It’s Jack, can I come in?” He spoke. I sighed in relief, walking to the door and opening it. He smiled down at me and I couldn’t help but return it. He walked in, waiting for me to close the door before he began talking. “Hey so, would you like to go to the concert we have tomorrow here? We were celebrating the end of our tour and we decided to crash here before our last show.” I smiled at him, nodding.

“Yeah, I would really like that.” Jack smiled back and we sat on the couch, watching the rest of the show before I found myself falling asleep.

I woke up on something comfortable. It was warm, and soft but nothing like a pillow. If anything, it was softer. I grabbed a handful of it, before hearing a small chuckle and I snapped my eyes open, looking up and seeing Jack yawning. “Morning.” He lazily smiled at me. I jerked away, earning a laugh from him. “Don’t worry, it didn’t bother me.” He winked over at me. I looked away, turning the TV off. My eyes caught sight of the clock next to the TV and it read 2:48 in the afternoon.

“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have fallen asleep on you, that was rude.” Jack waved it off and stood up, stretching.

“No worries, now let’s get some food, my treat?” He asked. I didn’t want to go out, what if Austin was around here? What if he saw me? I couldn’t bear to see him right now. I guess Jack felt my discomfort and he cupped my chin, making me look at him. “Don’t worry, I’ll go out and buy it. You stay here and get ready, you said yesterday you would go to our concert right?” I nodded and he smiled. “Good, now go and I’ll be back.” I watched as he left and I walked to my bag, taking out a pair of jeans, a random Slipknot shirt that Austin had given me and my Vans. I walked to the shower, turning on the water and getting in.

After a while, I sat on the floor of the tub, thinking about yesterday. I couldn’t help but feel like crying about all this. He had lied to me and worst of all, Josh was right about him. I rubbed my stomach, sniffing back the tears. “We don’t need him, I promise.” My thoughts drifted to Jack and I immediately smiled, thinking on how nice he was. He was sweet, and really caring. He never left my side yesterday and he was there when I talked to Sarah on the phone, telling me that Austin had gone to our apartment to look for me. I turned the water off, drying myself and dressing when the front door opened.

“Anne? I got the food.” I heard Jack call.

“Just a minute.” I called back, brushing my hair and slipping on my shoes. I walked out, seeing him sitting in the counter and once he looked at me, he smiled, brightening up the room. I returned the smile walking over and taking the Dunkin Donuts bag. We talked about his tour and how the band formed until we had to go.

“Can you give me a second?” I asked as he was about to leave.

“Sure.” He nodded, sitting on the couch and watched as I grabbed a paper and pen from my bag.

Austin,

I know it seems cowardly to leave this paper at Aaron’s but I don’t want to see you right now. When the time comes and I’m ready to face you, then I will cross that bridge but right now, I want to just stay away for a bit. I won’t tell you where I am and I don’t want you to look for me, just please give me some time. I love you and you know that, and I don’t want to believe Gielle but I don’t know what to think anymore. I was planning on telling you that night that I was pregnant with your child. I love you.
All my heart, Annemarie.

I folded the paper, texting Aaron that I needed him to give it to Austin and he agreed. “Hey listen, angel.” Jack spoke when I stood up. “Give yourself time for you and the baby. That’s all that matters right now, okay?” I looked at him and nodded, having him smile and kiss my forehead. “Let’s get going.”

We walked out of the hotel, going into the band bus parked in the back parking lot. The guys greeted me with smiles and they all made me feel welcomed. We soon pulled up to Aaron’s house and Jack volunteered to go with me. I nervously walked with him, worried about Austin being there. I knocked on the door, feeling fear settle in me but Aaron opened the door.

“Annie.” He breathed in relief and hugged me. I returned it, holding back my tears.

“Give this to him, tell him that I changed my number. I’ll have him blocked.” Aaron nodded and looked at Jack.

“Hey, Sarah said she found you guys yesterday.”

“Yeah, we’re planning on having her stay with us for a few days.” Jack answered. I wasn’t told this, but maybe that’s what they wanted them to believe.

“Okay, take care of yourself and the baby.” Aaron looked at me. We exchanged our goodbyes and I walked back with Jack.

“The guys and I had a talk yesterday a little after you left. We will be more than happy to have you spend a few days with us.” I thought about it and stopped walking.

“Jack,” he stopped walking and stood in front of me. “I'm really grateful, but I don’t want to burden you guys, plus I’m good staying in the hotel.” Jack rolled his eyes and walked to me, standing only a few feet from me.

“You will be staying with us. Not only is it going to be free, but you’ll have company to watch you and the baby.” I thought about it before agreeing. Jack smiled, grabbing my hand and softly pulling me to the bus behind him.

Austin’s POV

I haven’t heard from Marie since yesterday. I laid in our bed, practically crying myself to sleep from losing her. I heard my phone ring and I sprang up, answering. “Baby?”

“No, it’s Aaron.” I stayed quiet, my hopes going down again. “I found a note from her taped to my door.”

“I’m on my way.” I answered, getting up from bed, putting my shoes on and running out of the house and to my car. I drove quickly to Aaron’s going inside and he was sitting on the couch, letter in his hand. I walked over, taking the letter and began reading it.

“I’m sorry.” Aaron whispered. I shook my head, walking back out and to my car. I drove to my house, closing the door behind me. I grabbed the two bottles of whiskey I had and the pack of beers in my fridge. I walked up to our room, locking myself there and placing all the drinks on the bed. I sat down, tears spilling from my eyes as I took a huge gulp from the bottle of whiskey and cringed at the taste.

I lost the love of my life. She and my child left me. I have nothing.
