Those In Glass Houses

Just The Way I'm Not

I laughed with Aaron as we both sat in the small restaurants booth, eating our food and telling old jokes. “What about the time that the kid in Chemistry ate the gummy bears and he got food poisoning?” I held my stomach, laughing harder and soon, the manager had come by.

“If you could please lower your voice, we are getting complaints from other costumers.” He spoke. Aaron nodded, both of us trying to calm down as he paid.

“We’re sorry, we got too caught up.” The manager left us to leave and we walked out, apologizing to the other customers. “So why didn’t Austin come over?” Aaron asked as we got in car.

“He said he had a few things to take care of and he decided to stay.” Aaron nodded, turning the car and we drove to his house.

“You guys are going strong right? A whole year basically.” Aaron noted.

“Yeah, it’s been great.” I smiled, thinking back to everything that had happened.

“When are you going to tell him the news?” Aaron asked, nudging me. I grinned, placing a hand on my stomach and rubbed it.

“Tonight, but when we announce it to the band, you have to act surprised!” I playfully smacked his arm and he laughed, turning into his driveway.

“I know, no need to hit me!” Aaron laughed. I had found out I was pregnant two weeks ago and the first person I told was Aaron, seeing as I was afraid of what was going to happen. We walked in his house, sitting on the couch and watching a movie. I had finally called it a day when the movie was over, waving at Aaron and walking home.

I smiled, thinking on how excited Austin was going to be about the baby when I reached our house. I was about to pull out the house keys when the door opened and a tall blonde was standing there, eyeing me. “Can I help you?” She asked. I stood stunned, staring at her and wondering what was going on.

“How did you get in here?” I asked, my eyes going to two duffle bags on the ground.

“House keys.” She showed them to me, holding them up. “So, can I help you?” My eyes went from the bags, to the keys, to her. She looked oddly familiar and that’s when it hit me.

“You’re Gielle?” I asked. She sighed, annoyed and nodded.

“Yes, now what do you want?” She asked annoyed.

“I want to go in my house.” I was about to step around her when she blocked my path.

“Your house? You mean my house.” She pushed me. “You’re Austin’s little toy right? Well, I’m his wife and you’re the tramp.” She glared at me.

“What? No! He divorced you last year!” I yelled at her. She shook her head, kicking the two duffle bags to my feet.

“Nope, he lied; we’re still married.” She smirked at me. “Now get off my property before I call the police.” She was about to close the door when I stopped it, pushing it back.

“Austin wouldn’t lie to me. Now why are you here?” My patience was running thin and her smirk wasn’t helping.

“I told you, Austin lied to you. He only used you while we took a small break. He doesn’t need you, he never did and never will.” Gielle looked at her nails and I couldn’t help but believe her. He was lying this entire time. I shook my head, letting my hand fall from the door.

“Tell him that I want to thank him for helping me.” I bent down and picked up my bags. “Also, that his child and I don’t need him.” Gielle looked at me and then at my stomach.

“Sure, I’ll tell him. Now leave.” She ordered. I watched as she closed the door, locking it. I stared at it for a bit longer before I turned around and left. I walked back to Aaron’s house and knocked on the front door. He opened it, a few seconds later and the moment I locked eyes with him, I couldn’t help but fall to my knees and cry. Aaron held me, hushing me and comforting me.

“Tino, help me with the bags.” Aaron ordered. I cried as he carried me inside, Tino rushing to get my bags and close the door.

“Annie, what happened?” He asked.

“Aaron, she was at his house! They never got the divorce, he lied to me!” I cried, hugging him close. Aaron stayed quiet and so did Tino.

“Hey, cutie?” I heard Alan’s voice. I looked up at him, seeing him walking to me with open arms. I flung myself to him, crying again and he shushed me.

“He said he filed the divorce.” Aaron spoke.

“Well either he did, or he didn’t.” Tino spoke.

“Austin never confirmed the divorce.” Alan said, hugging me tighter.

“Anne, go spend the night with Alan and Sarah.” Aaron suggested.

“He’ll find me there; I’ll go stay a few nights at a hotel. If anything, you guys haven’t seen me.” I said, wiping my tears away and standing up straight. Sarah was standing by the couch and she walked over, hugging me tightly.

“We’ll cover for you, now go.” She helped me with my bags and she drove me to a nice hotel a few blocks down. I paid in cash for the hotel, knowing he would check the credit cards.
Sarah helped me take up my bags and we got in the room.

“We’ll text you if anything, don’t worry.” I nodded, walking her out and hugging her. A door opened next door and we both turned, seeing a guy with brown hair, lighter than Austin’s step out.

“Hey Sarah, what brings you here? I thought you lived with Alan.” He smiled, walking over.

“Alex, this is Annemarie.” She smiled to me. “Anne, this is Alex Gaskarth from All Time Low.” I softly smiled at him and he chuckled, grabbing my hand and shaking it.

“Nice to finally meet you. We’ve seen pictures of you with Austin.” I couldn’t help but flinch at the name and he tensed up.

“I’m sorry.” He whispered.

“You didn’t know, it’s fine.” Sarah spoke. “If you guys hear anything about Austin trying to find her, you guys know nothing, alright?” Sarah told him.

“Yeah, sure.” Sarah turned to me, hugging me one last time before I watched as she left.

“Are you staying alone?” Alex asked, turning to me. I looked at him, seeing him eye me.

“Yeah, the rest of the band knows where I am except for Austin and Phil.” Alex nodded and turned his head to the door of his room.

“You hungry? We ordered pizza and I was going out to get some drinks. A bit of alcohol could clear your head.” He smiled. I shook my head and looked down to my stomach, tearing up.

“Pizza sounds good, but no alcohol.” I whispered the last part and he took a step to me.

“You’re pregnant?” He asked. I nodded and he walked over, hugging me. “Listen to me, whatever Austin did to you; he doesn’t deserve your tears. Now come inside, let’s get the baby some real food.”
