Those In Glass Houses

Repeating Apologies

Austin’s POV

I heard the front door close shut softly, making me sit up in bed. I rubbed my eye, thinking Alan probably went out to get some air. He’s been pretty bummed lately when he found out his girlfriend was only using him for his money. I can understand that feeling. Giselle did cheat on me and now a divorce was the only thing I looked forward to.

I swung my legs out of the bed and stretched. I walked out of the room, seeing the long hallways completely dark except for a light downstairs. I walked down the stairs the moment Aaron was walking upstairs. “Hey, what happened?” I asked him, rubbing my eyes from the sudden brightness.

“A friend of mine is sleeping over on the couch.” Aaron yawned and turned the light off. “Go back to sleep, you look like a zombie.” I chuckled and walked back to the bedroom, laying on the bed and going straight to sleep.

I woke up with the room a bit bright. I sat up, ignoring the fact that I didn’t have a T-shirt and walked down stairs. I yawned, going to the kitchen and stopping at the doorway. Someone was making coffee while humming a random tune. She had black jeans with a stripped white and black, long-sleeved shirt on. Her hair was a very light blue, like the color of the sky in the meadows in England. She turned around, mug in her hand and stared at me with her bright, green colored eyes. She tensed up, moving away and looking down. She never turned her back to me though, which was fine by me since she was stunning.

“Hey Austin, this is Annemarie Hughes, the one who’s going to stay here. Annie, this is Austin Carlile, singer for the band I’m in.” Aaron chimed in behind me. I couldn’t take my eyes off her though. Why hasn’t Aaron talked about her before?

“Yeah, I know.” She softly whispered. Aaron smiled, and then looked at me giving me an apologetic look.

“Good morning!” Phil said, walking in with Tino and Alan behind him.

“Hey cutie, what’s your name?” Alan asked, standing next to Annemarie. She stared at him, fear in her eyes and she began shaking. “Hey, don’t be nervous.” Alan smiled, and gently grabbed her arm. She flinched, dropping her mug on the floor and whimpering. Everyone stared at her as she collapsed on the floor. Aaron ran over, holding her close as she cried.
“I’m sorry! I’m really sorry! It was an accident, I swear it was!” She pleaded. Aaron calmed her down and pulled away, looking at her.

“Annie, its fine. Alan won’t hurt you.” Annemarie nodded, looking down and tries to hold back her tears. I watched as she relaxed and Aaron told her to sit on the couch. She nodded, carefully walking passed us and going to the couch.

“Hey man, I’m sorry, but what did I do?” Alan asked. I could sense the worry in his voice.
“It wasn’t you; her boyfriend beats her so she finally left. She’s been physically and mentally abused for the past two years.” Aaron quietly said, making another cup of coffee. I looked at the broken girl in the living room. She was so beautiful. Why would anyone want to hurt her?

A sudden knock at the door was heard and Annemarie turned her attention to us. “That’s probably Jared, our manager.” Aaron spoke to calm her down. She nodded, coming back to the kitchen and grabbing another mug. Aaron opened the front door and a guy stood there with a bunch of flowers. He wore a light grey jacket with a pair of blue jeans, and a beanie over his shaggy light brown hair. He took out the cigarette in his mouth and smiled up at Aaron.

“Hey, my name is Josh Andrews. I’m Annemarie’s boyfriend.” He spoke. Aaron glared at him and Annemarie turned her attention to him. He looked over at her and pushed past Aaron and carefully walked over. “Baby, listen I’m really sorry about last night. Please come home, I miss you.” He spoke carefully. Annemarie looked at him and she looked down shaking her head.

“No, I don’t want to go back with you. I gave you too many chances and I don’t want to. Please get out and leave me alone.” She spoke out loud. Josh looked at her, a bit stunned and chuckled nervously.

“Baby, come on. I said I was sorry.”

“And she said to leave.” I spoke, grabbing his arm and pushing him out the door. He stumbled out, falling on his back and glaring up at me.

“I’ll be back, you hear me? She’s mine and I won’t back down.” He snapped. I grabbed his jacket by the collar and picked him up, having him face to face with me.

“Don’t get near her, got it?” I growled and he chuckled, seeming amused. I pulled my free hand back and punched him, having him fall back on the floor and hold his chin with his hand. I slammed the door closed and looked over at Annemarie who was looking at me. We locked eyes for what seemed forever until she looked at Aaron.

“What do I do now?” She asked, slightly afraid. Aaron sighed, looking down and shrugging.

“We have to leave for tour in a few days, Annie. There’s not much we can do for you.” Aaron admitted. Annemarie looked away, placing the tip of her thumb by her teeth and softly biting it.

“I can live with my co-worker.” She spoke.

“Does Josh know where she lives?” Tino asked quietly. Annemarie thought for a moment before nodding.

“Its fine, I’ll manage.” She spoke, going back to the living room.

“Why don’t you come along with us, Marie?” I asked. She turned to me and shook her head.

“No, I can’t do that. I’ll get in the way and I won’t be able to cope with certain situations and I’ll be a huge bother.” I shook my head and looked at the band.

“Come on guys, how bad can it be?” I watched as Tino and Phil grinned and Aaron smiled, thinking about it. Alan grinned and walked over to Annemarie.

“Come on, cutie. We promise on our fans that we won’t hurt you.” He smiled and Annemarie looked at everyone.

“Only, if you guys promise to be patient with me.” We all agreed and she smiled at Aaron. Alan stuck his hand out at her and she looked at it before hesitantly grabbing it and shaking it softly. I knew I had no reason to be jealous of Alan and Annemarie getting along. I mean, I just met the girl and here I was, getting jealous that she was getting along with my best friend.
