Looking Through the Lens

Chapter Two

Anna

Anna sits quietly on the tour bus’s lumpy couch, sifting through the photos she had gotten at the show. They’re great, but she keeps coming back to the photo of Austin winking at her. Smiling to herself, she zooms in on his face, and notices the bridge of freckles spattered across his nose. Anna loved freckles on everybody else, but she hated her own.

“Hey, that’s a good one!” Anna jumps out of her skin at the sudden voice behind her, letting out a squeal. She spins around to face it, and stumbles back when she sees that it’s Austin, smiling from ear to ear. And he’s inches away.

“Jesus!” She exclaims, smiling despite her racing heart. Austin winks and walks into the small kitchen, hunting for a snack. Anna huffs and plops back onto the couch, fiddling with her cross necklace and observing him.

“So where are you from?” he asks, bending down to grab a pot from the cupboard. Anna tries not to stare at the swath of colorful tattoos blanketing his arm. She fails.

“Charlotte, North Carolina,” she says, snapping out of her reverie.

“Ah, I knew you were from somewhere southern,” he says with a smile. I can’t believe he’s so nice, Anna thinks. She didn’t know what she was expecting, come to think about it. Well, rockstars do have a certain…reputation.

“Whatch’ya makin’?” Tino asks as he enters the kitchen, Alan, Aaron and Phil all following behind.

“Dunno yet. Maybe mac n’ cheese?”

“OOOOH! Sounds good, baby!” Alan squeals in a mock southern girl voice, smacking Austin’s rear with a dishtowel. He wraps his arms around him from behind, the band bursting into laughter as a result. Austin chuckles and shoves Alan away playfully.

“Later, baby. Patience,” Austin says huskily to Alan. Okay wait, are they gay? Anna wonders to herself. She shrugs, and snaps a picture of the scene. The guys make their way to the living area, the couch sagging in protest to the sudden addition of weight. Alan sits uncomfortably close to Anna. She tries to create some space by discreetly moving a few inches away, but Alan closes the space again, giving her the creepiest look she’s ever seen.

“Dude, you need a shower,” Anna remarks, laughing and rising from the couch. This earns a shocked chuckle from the rest of the guys. Alan flips his hair and sticks his tongue out. Anna joins Austin in the kitchen while the band flicks on the tiny T.V.

“Need any help in here?”

“I think it’s ready. Mind grabbing me some paper bowls from in there?” He points to a cupboard, and Anna complies. She hands him the bowls, and his hand brushes against hers in the process. He looks at her and smiles softly. His eyes are such a lovely, warm shade of chocolate-brown. It makes her heart skip a beat. Her cheeks flush.

“Thank you,” he murmurs, brushing past her to the small dining table. The spot where his arm touched hers tingles. She finds herself yearning for more. Anna follows Austin out to the dining table where the guys have already started eating. Looking at her watch, she sees that it’s almost time to go.

“I should probably get going. I need to get a head start to the next venue. I guess I’ll see you guys tomorrow.” Anna hopped off the bus, started walking to her beat up truck, and drove off to the next venue with anticipation for tomorrow running through her veins.

@GABBYC
I'm so sorry we haven't been able to write at all in the past two months practically! Between jobs and classes full time, there's not much time leftover. But we'll definitely be finishing the next chapter soon!
