Princess of Texting
Epilogue
"Dad" Andy said and I looked up from my laptop. Andy was starting to look a lot like me for every day that went by. 14 years old and already 6 feet tall. Essie's purple eyes, my dark hair and freckles.
"Yeah? What is it?" I asked when he looked nervous.
"I might... well... I might have fucked up" he said. I looked at him and wondered.
"Did you do drugs?" I asked., and he shook his head.
"You know I would never do that dad" he sighed.
"Did you get a girl knocked up?" I asked.
"I'M FOURTEEN" he called out.
"So?" I laughed, and he rolled his eyes.
"I might have said something...well mean... to mom" he said. I stared at him.
"You what?" I asked.
"I said something mean to her, and now she's.... well.... She refuse to talk to me, and she's crying and..." he began but I cut him off.
"YOU WHAT?" I called out and jolted up.
"I didn't mean it, I just... fuck" he said and teared up.
I hurried outside and saw that she was in the car. Bawling her eyes out and having a hard time breathing. I sighed and walked over, opened the door and crouched beside her.
"Honey, don't cry" I said and took her hand.
"I'm the worst mother ever" she cried.
"No you're not" I said and she looked at me.
"Yes I am, I failed as a mother" she cried. I pulled her out of the car, locked it and dragged her inside as she cried.
"Apologize" I said to Andy and he looked ashamed.
"I didn't mean it" he said. I heard steps coming down the stairs and suddenöy another face joined us.
"What is going on?" Alex asked.
"Your big brother here decided to say something mean to your mother" I explained.
"I'm sorry, okay?!" Andy said and teared up even more.
Essie was staring up at the ceiling when I finally got out from the bathroom. I sighed and laid myself down and wrapped my arms around her.
"You didn't fail as a mother. We have two beautiful sons you know" I whispered and kissed her temple.
"I know" she said and turned to face me.
"Andy is turning 15, and Alex is turning 12" I smiled.
"I can't believe that my life would turn out this way" she said.
"Are you disappointed, or happy about it?" I asked and looked at her.
"Happy, because I never thought I would see a day like this. Two sons, a husband... Cancer free, the whole package" she said.
"You've been free for almost 5 years now" I smiled.
"I can't believe that it came back, but I fought back... I won" she smiled.
"You're a real fighter" I chuckled and kissed her nose.
"I love you Austin" she said.
"I love you too" I smiled.
"And I'm really happy that I got to meet you, and get all this" she said.
"Your vegan diet is still annoying me, but yeah... I'm glad as well" I laughed.
"Shut up about the vegan food" she giggled.
"I will never do that, because just like Cory I alays wonder... 'Did she eat something today?' or 'Did she eat at all?' and all that" I sighed. She placed a hand on my bare chest and placed herself comfortable next to me. I wrapped my arm around her shoulders.
"And remember... You didn't fail at all" I whispered.
"I know" she whispered back and yawned.
"I love you" I said, but she had already fallen asleep.
