“Right now? You’re having the baby now?” he said into the microphone. The whole arena had gone dead silent and I just glared at him.

“Yes, I’m having the baby now. Hurry the fuck up or I’ll leave without you. So help me Austin if I do that you’re going to pay.” I stomped off stage as the whole crowd erupted into cheers.

“Err, I guess I should go then. We’ll replace the concert so no worries!” Austin rushed out before legging it backstage and rubbing my back.

“Get the car!” I yelled at him and he took the keys from the table in the small dresser before rushing from building. I took deep breaths as Alan stared at me with a funny look on his face.

“How are you so calm and Austin is freaking the fuck out?”

“He’s male.” Was all I said a groaned a pain blossomed through my stomach. Why did have giving birth need to be so painful? Austin was back inside the stadium as held a hand over his heart. He walked over to me and put my hand over his.

“Feel it? I’m so excited.” He smiled as I felt the strong fast heartbeat under my hand. I smiled at him as he guided me to the car. The nearest hospital was a half an hour drive and by the time we got there I was in so much pain I was afraid that I wasn’t going to be able to have the baby.

“Are you alright?”

“Fine.” I smiled again at him because I didn’t want him to worry.

“I called your mum when I got in the car. She should be here soon.” Austin said to me as he helped me into the emergency room at the hospital.

“My wife is having a baby!” Austin screamed and in seconds there was a flurry of nurses around me and urging me into a wheelchair. The nurses helped me change into the gown before inserting a cannula into my hand to administer pain killers. As soon as I felt the first rush of pain killer my body relax almost immediately.

“We’re just going to see how much your dilated, hon.” A brunette smiled at me before pushing her cool fingers inside me to feel my cervix. Needless to say it was a weird feeling.

“Not bad, you’re already five centimetres. I say give it an hour and you should be ready to have your baby.” She patted my knee before disappearing out of the door. My mother rushed into the room with a huge smile on her face.

“I’m only in here to say that I’m here. Austin is waiting outside worried like a mother hen.” She kissed me on the forehead with and smile and whispered, “Do me proud, Taylor.”

“What did the nurse say?” Austin asked as he walked into the room with a backpack slung over his shoulder. The bag was familiar since we’d packed it together. It had Mia’s first baby grown, hat and bootie socks in for when she was first born and knowing Austin there was probably a can of Monster in there.

“I’m five centimetres. They said to leave it another hour and I should be ready.” Austin climbed onto the single hospital bed and wrapped his arms around me and I rested my head on his shoulder.

“I’m scared, Austin.” I whispered to him. I was afraid that I wasn’t going to be a good mother or that something was going to be wrong with Mia when she was born.

“You don’t need to be, baby. You’re going to be a great mother and Mia is going to be as beautiful as you are. I promise.” Austin stroked his hand down my arm as another contraction covered my body. He whispered loving words to me as the hour passed.

The nurse came back into the small room and smiled at me as she pulled her hand out.

“Let me go get Dr Jameson. You’re ready to have your baby girl.” Austin climbed out of the bed and stood beside me, his hand clutching mine. The doctor was an older man with grey hair and a comforting smile.

“Okay, Mrs Carlile how about we give you your baby?”

“Sure.” I nodded as he knelt between my thighs.

“On my count I want you to start pushing and stop until I say, okay?”

“Mhm.” I nodded at him and he counted to three on his fingers and I pushed while squeezing Austin’s hand. He stroked my hair and whispered to me as I made a few painful murmurs but overall it wasn’t too bad. The doctor told me stop and I rested a few seconds before I was allowed to push again.

“I can see the head, Taylor. You’re doing great, keep going. One more big push and she should be here.” I took a deep breath before pushing with all the might I had in my body and soon enough the sound of our baby was screaming. They took her away and cleaned her before bringing her back in a towel.

“Would you like to cut the umbilical cord?” The doctor asked Austin who snipped away the sausage like thing that was poking out of Mia’s bellybutton. They handed her over to Austin who took her like he’d been holding a baby all his life. I was drained but I could see the love shining in his eyes as he looked at our baby girl.

“She’s beautiful.” Austin whispered to me as he bought her over. He was right. She was beautiful. She had her dad’s round face and beautiful eyes but had my naturally blonde hair.
“We should put her in clothes.” The nurse said as he tried to take her from Austin.

“No, I’ll do it.” Austin twisted away with her in his arms and gently laid her down on the changing mat. The nappies that they’d provided us with were way too big for her but that was to be expected. Austin dressed her in her baby grow, booties and little hat before finally handing her to me.

I held her in my eyes and felt a moment’s warmth in my chest. The door opened and my parents and Austin’s dad came into the room. They all fussed over Mia and she took it in stride with her big brown eyes and cheeky little smile. She was amazing and I knew I would do anything for that little girl and her dad.

“Are you alright, love?” Austin asked as he carried Mia inside the next day in one arm and the backpack in the other.

“Just tried but my life is perfect.”

“Mine became perfect the day you walked into it.”

“Promise?”

“Forever with every beat of my broken heart.”
