Too Young To Live This Way

She'll Be A Secret You Can Keep

“I’m going to be a dad?” Austin whispered to me as I nodded to him. He smiled so wide I was sure he would be able to light up the whole of Australia with it. I let a breath out and smiled back at him.

“Are you upset about it?”

“No, it says two to three weeks so it was sometime during our honeymoon.”

“The night in Venice when you went missing. We made love on the floor of the hotel room, then in the bathroom the next morning, the on the plane…” Austin murmured in my hair and I could tell the smile was still on his face. He pulled me from the bathroom and yelled up to the studio.

“I’m going to be a dad!” there were whoops of joy and a few laughs as they put their head over the banister and grinned down at us. I smiled up at them with a bit of trepidation. I wasn’t sure if I was ready to be a parent and I had nine months to find out.

****
Three months in.

I stood sideways and looked in the mirror at myself. My stomach starting to protrude at the bottom and I frowned at it. We’d arrived back home three days ago after a two day boat trip. Austin had been looking up about babies and apparently it wasn’t safe to fly while pregnant. I tried telling him that I’d already flown when pregnant but he made us all take a boat back.

I rubbed my hand over the tiny baby bump as Austin came into the room in just his boxers. He headed straight to me and rubbed his hand over my stomach.

“We need to get to the hospital.”

“Yeah…” I headed towards the closet and frowned at the clothes. Nothing really fits me right anymore since I’d started gaining more and more weight. I was uncomfortable in my skin but I knew I had to keep a straight head for the baby and Austin.

“Wear this. It’ll be comfortable and fits.” Austin reached over my shoulder and pulled out a stretchy white shirt and a pair of black stretchy jeans. I bent my head backwards and kissed him gently on his neck. He’d recently gotten a new tattoo halfway up his neck. My name. He said he’d left room underneath to get their child’s name tattooed on his when he or she was born.

Today was my twelve week scan. As I slipped into my clothes I wondered where the time had gone. It had been almost seven months since that one fateful night. Since that night I fell into the arms of the man of my dreams.

“Taylor? Are you ready?” Austin had a backpack on and a laminate around his neck. I headed towards him and pulled him down for his kiss. He responded just like I hoped he would by winding his arms around my back and bending me backwards with the force of his kiss.

“Mm, let’s go, angel.” Austin took me by the hand a led me to my red BMW but didn’t let me drive. I slid inside the passenger seat and let him drive. It seemed he enjoyed my car more than I did. Which I didn’t mind since he bought it.

“You’re on the radio.” I said as I turned the volume up in the car and sure enough Tears in the Sky was playing through Kerrang! Radio. They had released their album nearly a month ago and had already had a million copies sold within the first week of it being released.

“Well boys and girls that was Of Mice and Men’s new single Tears in the Sky. Some exciting news now about Austin Carlile, frontman from Of Mice and Men, and his wife, Taylor. News around the mill is that they’re expecting a baby. So send in your best wishes and let’s hope that they hear us.”

“How did they find out?” I asked him and he flushed with a shrug. “Austin.”

“I may have tweeted it.” He said so quietly I made him repeat it. I glared at him as he pulled into the hospital. He dove from the car before I could shout at him and opened my door for me.

“Alan’s moving out and we’re using the bedroom as a nursery.” He blurted before I could say anything.

“I’m sorry.” He whispered a second before kissing me and distracting me. I scowled at him once more before heading into the hospital with his hand in mine. We headed to the ultrasound department of the hospital and waited for the nurse to call us in.

When I was reclining on the blue rubber seat Austin was wandering around the room and picking various things up.

“Stop touching.” I groaned at him and he sat back down on the seat that he was originally on. His feet started tapping nervously on the floor as he looked around the room. He’d gotten his hair cut recently and it made him look older but in a good way.

“Austin, it’s alright.”

“Yeah.” He nodded to me before chewing on his bottom lip as the nurse came into the room. She smiled at us before sitting on a spinning stood.

“If you’d just lift your shirt up, Taylor and we’ll see how your baby is doing.” I tugged my shirt up and Austin reached over to twine his hand with mine and I kissed his cheek.

“Alright the gel is cold so brace yourself.” She wasn’t lying. The gel felt cool on my stomach and I instinctively shied away from the cool goo. She put the contraption on my stomach and rolled it around a few moments before faint thumping sound filled the room.

“Do you want to know the sex?”

“Do we?” I asked and turned to look at Austin and he was grinning and nodded. He squeezed my hand before turning back to the blonde nurse.

“Well Mr and Mrs Carlile you are expecting a baby girl.” I looked over at Austin as his eyes filled with tears and he bent down and kissed me gently on the tip of the nose.

“I was hoping for a girl so she’d be as beautiful as her mother.”

“I’ll give you a picture and a DVD.” The nurse said before handing me a paper towel to wipe my stomach before tugging my shirt down and sitting up.

“There isn’t anything wrong with her? With her heart?” Austin asked the nurse with a worried glance in my direction.

“If you’re worried about your daughter having the same viral disease as you Mr Carlile you have nothing to worry about. She is perfectly healthy.”

“Thank God.” Austin whispered to me and kissed me so hard our teeth clacked together.
“I told you it would be alright.”

“We should go shopping.” Austin said to me as I climbed into the car again on the way home. I just nodded to him and he headed to the mall before taking my hand. We headed into a giant baby store which held clothes from newly born to five years old and cots, prams, toys, changing tables and practically everything that a baby would need.

“Where do we start?”

“What do we need?”

“Everything.” I giggled as he grabbed two shopping cart and handed me one and he took a hold of the other one.

“How about we both choose some stuff and then decide together about the crib, pram and changing table?” Austin asked as he picked up a fluffy toy duck and tossed in his cart. I just nodded to him and knew his cart was going to be fuller than mine and boy was I right.

By the time we had gotten around to choosing the crib his cart was full and he was using mine as a substitute. We had so many bottles, bibs, dummies, nappies and formula I feared that we wouldn’t have room in the house for it all.

Austin announced as he climbed into one of the cribs.

“What are you doing?”

“I don’t want something breakable.” I just waved my head at him as he climbed out of the dark brown crib. I’d seen one when we walked into the store. It was white and had netting all over the top to make sure nothing bad dropped into it while she was sleeping. It was beautiful.

“I like this one.” Austin said as he pointed a crib that was designed to looked like a castle.

“Don’t you think we should wait until she’s a little older to get her something like that? She’s only going to grow out of it.”

“Yeah, I guess.”

“What about this one?” he asked as he headed over to a circular one that was tucked away in the corner. It looked as if it hadn’t been sold and shoved to the back. It was a duplicate of the one I loved but circular. It was unique and I thought I was stunning.

“How would get bedding for it?”

“Here.” Austin pointed to a particular section that done circular bedding.

“Okay. Let’s get that one.”

We chose the crib and changing table before we were arguing over which pram to buy. I wanted one where I could see the baby but Austin wanted one which changed into so many different versions of a pram. I just wanted a simple and sturdy pram.

“Austin, please.” I whispered as I wrapped my arms around his waist before giving him my best puppy eyes.

“Taylor…” he whined but eventually gave in to the pram I wanted. I didn’t want to look at the credit card bill which we’d just racked up in this shop.

“We need to get pain and carpets and toys…” Austin was saying as we climbed back into the car. We’d had to have the stuff delivered because Austin had bought so much.

“There is still six months left to get everything ready.”

“I know. I just want everything to be perfect for her.”

“It will be. You’re the dad.”
