Sense Of Reality

I'm Turning Over The Pages In This Book Of Revelations

I waited at the gate, pulling my jacket around me. My hair whipped around my face and my bag slipped a few inches down my shoulder. I saw the ginger I was waiting for leave the school building, a girl with brown hair beside him. My eyes traveled down his arm, and I saw her slim hands grasping his forearm. She was laughing and talking loudly, calling him "babe" and "boo" repetitively. I felt a pang of jealously. Alan had a small smile on his lips and was nodding along at the pauses between sentences, sometimes uttering a few words too low for the wind to carry to my strained ears. The brunette went up on her tiptoes and kissed his cheek, before getting into a car, calling,

'Goodbye, sweetie!' Out the window at him. Tears stung the backs of my eyes as I fought not to shed them. I turned and started for home, pulling out a scarf from my bag and wrapping it around my neck. Jay had knitted the scarf, back in ninth grade when he was on a homemade trend. He taught himself how to sew and knit, though lost the talents over the summer break. This was his first attempt at knitting something bigger than a square, and it had come out holey and loose, having been knitted with larger needles than Jay was used to. The wool was also different, Jay had said it would be warm and fluffy, but with his mediocre skills it had been a flop. I had watched him knit most of it, while I listened to music and experimented with makeup. Jay had given it to me as a Christmas present, his gift wrapping skills surpassing his knitting skills by a mile.

'Diana!' I heard Alan shout, his feet slapping against the concrete as he ran to catch up to me. The bus pulled into the terminal and I hopped on without a second glance, leaving Alan behind. I saw him cursing, pulling out his phone. I looked back at him as my phone rang, saw him mouthing the words, pick up. I ignored him, turning and facing away. My phone stopped ringing and a few seconds later signaled that I had received a message. I looked down. Three words, nine letters. I deleted the message, my expression unchanging.

How could he do this?

I got off the bus and walked home, not remembering the events last time I walked into my house. I went into my bedroom, silently closing the door.

'Diana!' My mum shouted, a question in her voice. I closed my eyes in frustration. My bedroom door had been closed when I walked in the house. It swung open, and my mother bustled in, engulfing me in a hug.

'Diana,' she was sobbing, 'never do that again. Please.'

'I'm sorry, mum.' I replied, grasping her tightly. 'I... I couldn't stand seeing him.'

'I realise that now. I shouldn't have forced you.' My mum buried her head in my shoulder. After we had both calmed down, my mum took my face in her hands, staring deep into my eyes. My mother had beautiful eyes. They were blue, as dark as the ocean, yet as carefree as the sky. They glittered like they contained stars at night, and it was like the heavens came crashing down upon you as she cried.

'That's not all,' she said softly, wiping away a tear that crept down my cheek, 'tell me everything.'

I did, and I cried, my nose ran and my face became all blotchy. My scarce makeup smeared, and I started hiccupping. I showed her the message that Alan sent me, dredging it up from the back up store.

She read it, rubbing my back, and looked up, sympathy filling her eyes.

'Oh, honey,'

The message read I'm hers now

Notes

Oh! Damn! Poor Di! :( And what's up with Jay, huh? Knitting? Seriously?

Haha, thank you, and neither can I! It'll be up in about a week or so. I've got a few other stories I'm writing at the moment so I'm trying to pre-write as much of it as possible.
