Sense Of Reality

This Town Will Be The Downfall Of Us All

I woke up, feeling a weight draped across my body. I turned over, and saw the dark figure of Jessica. She groaned, waking up as I shimmied out from under her arm, slipping into the bathroom. I splashed cold water over my face and tried to stop it from dripping everywhere. I started untangling my hair, combing out the knots with my fingers. I returned to Jessica's room, where she had thrown open her sheet-curtains, and was choosing her attire for the day. I picked up my bag and danced into my skinny jeans after taking off the pajama bottoms Jessica lent me. I skillfully put my bra on without removing my top, hooking the clasp and then catching a piece of fabric that was thrown in my direction.

'Here, put it on.' Jessica said. 'It should fit you. It's too big for me.' I looked at the plain fabric that had been thrown at me; it was a checked button down. I took off my dirty top and put it on, leaving the top two buttons undone.

'Come on, Ana! You're in with a chance here - with a guy. Dress it up a bit!' Jessica came over and unbuttoned the last button and the third button, arranging the collar. 'There you go.' She smiled at me, dragging me to the bathroom to assess my look.

I threw a disgusted look at myself in the mirror. My boobs were practically spilling out of my top and you could almost see my navel.

'No way.' I said, re-buttoning. Jessica poked her tongue out at me.

'Suit yourself.' She grabbed her brush and brushed her hair, doing mine when she had finished. I skipped the makeup as I had none on me besides my mascara. While Jessica was doing her own - a light blue eyeshadow with a thick dark blue eyeliner and mascara, with just a hint of lip gloss - I straightened my hair, watching as Jessica did her own the way I had shown her a few weeks ago. She arranged her hair so that the green strands complemented her eyes and made her look colourful and crazy, yet still achieving the "cute girl" look. She put in a green lip ring and she was ready to go.

To say our friendship had grown was an understatement; we were now practically joined at the hip. A lot like Jay and I had been. We sat next to each other in all our classes and always hung out at every available moment. It felt nice, having a friend again and being somewhat sociable.
After eating breakfast, we ran to the bus stop, barely arriving in time to board the pesky vehicle. We snagged seats at the back and went over our schedules for the day.

'I have... math, English and... a free and music.' I said, my eyebrows raising. Today wasn't as grueling as I thought it might be.

'We have English. When's your spare?' Jessica asked, tracing down the column.

'Fifth.' I replied, putting my timetable back in my bag and staring out the window.

'Damn. Mine's sixth. Do you want a coffee or something after school?' She would probably walk down to the Starbucks and buy us coffees in her free period. It made sense, since our sixth period was our last of the day.

'Uh, yeah. That sounds good.' I said, offering Jessica one of my headphones.

'Just the usual?'

'Yeah. Any particular band?'

'How about A Day To Remember?' I smirked at Jessica and shuffled their songs; I'm Made Of Wax, Larry, What Are You Made Of? coming on first.

Our trip to school passed uneventfully, hopping off and walking in slowly. I saw Alan storming around the side of a building, hands shoved deeply in his pockets, Hayley trailing behind him and walking in the opposite direction once she reached a corner.

What happened there?

'Go after him!' Jessica said, pushing me in his direction.

Alan's POV (From last night)

'Alan!' My computer yelled at me as I tried changing into my pajamas. I rolled my eyes. Hayley was still annoying me over Skype. She had made a point to avoid me at school today, and then when I had called her after school - and my kiss with Diana - planning to break up, she had gotten all emotional, talking about how the new girl in our group, Maddie, had just been dumped by her boyfriend. A few hours later, and I knew all about Maddie's past life and what she had for dinner last week. Stella had been talking to me via Skype while Hayley had been verbally assaulting me, so my mind had almost exploded.

Now, here she was, a visual and voice this time.

'Alan!'

'Hi Hayley.' I said, abandoning my attempt at changing and finally slipping into sleep where there were no girls to bug me. I sat down at the chair and opened up the chat, to see Hayley waving dorkily at me. I waved back, a hint of a smile on my lips.

'Now, Alan... This is going to seem really abrupt,' Hayley waffled on, pausing for great lengths of time and deciding carefully on each word. I sat there and looked at her, trying not to yawn. A few minutes later, and a piece of information caught my ear. I immediately tuned in, listening intently.

'I know it's late, so I'm going to let you go to sleep now, but we really need to talk, Alan, properly. Meet me at school tomorrow? A little bit earlier than usual, at the normal spot?' I nodded and blew her a kiss through the monitor.

She smiled sadly and ended the call, no return kiss. I smiled to myself. This is going to be easier than expected.

Haha, thank you, and neither can I! It'll be up in about a week or so. I've got a few other stories I'm writing at the moment so I'm trying to pre-write as much of it as possible.
